Personally I use one of these
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=28214&doy=search

    plugged into one of these
http://www.simplyautomate.co.uk/acatalog/info_17.html (which is same as http://www.simplyautomate.co.uk/acatalog/info_1.html)

10 sockets is just about enough for all my PC + peripherals, takes up very very small footprint (in fact it's currently positioned behind my monitor) and switching off everything at the mains is one button press from a remote control. :)

All extention leads that are fitted with a plug are also fused. They are perfectly safe, because in an overload situation the fuse will just blow.

    how safe are these

i am looking for a 5/6 extension lead to plug in my pc, printer, monitor, speaker and desk lamp - so in effect i need 5plugs

rather than the situ where i have a 4 plug and have to keep swapping plugs when i want to use the printer are there 6 way gangways like these

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9821091/Trail/searchtext%3EEXTENSION+LEAD.htm

which can be used safely by being plugged in all them time

or what other way can i do this without having to keep swaping plugs ?

I got mine from Tesco and it's brill. Only cost me £4.99 :o

A fused plug is certainly NOT enough to protect equipment. It's only really meant to be an overcurrent device and so is pretty useless in voltage protection circumstances. I think your statement is actually a pretty misleading one to make.

If you read my post you'll see that I said the extention leads are safe, which was the OPs question.

Please try to read before you comment on something.

I did read and I think you're wrong. The fuse won't blow in every "overload" situation and not what I'd consider safe around equipment like that without surge protection.
