Your ReadyBoost pendrive won't make any difference if you have 2GB of RAM :)

Core Duo etc are all Pentium Class CPU's, AMD Thingy's are Intel rejects with 6 less tranistors! :p
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

    hi everyone,

sorry if some feel im hijacking the thread but have a relevant question.

what is 'core 2 duo'? as apposed to 'pentium dual core' mentioned above.

    thanks

A Pentium Dual Core is a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo with less cache memory (cheaper than the Core Duo ranges). Still a reasonable performer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Pentium_Dual-Core

A Pentium D (8xx and 9xx series) is a discontinued range which was 2 x Pentium 4's. They are known for running very hot! You would not find one of these in a laptop.

assuming of coarse they aint talking about the twin dogs that were 2 p4's welded together and they still managed to get beaten by a single core amd. that said only specialist laptops ever touched them.

so if its dual core 1.9Ghz x 2 why don't they just say its a 3.8Ghz instead of saying its dual core but 1.9Ghz

Because although it adds up to 3.8Ghz - It is actually 2 x 1.9Ghz processors! ;)

Exactly, the Processor is not running at 3.8Ghz, each core runs at 1.9Ghz.

If they did claim it was 3.8Ghz, they'd probably get done on the Trades Description Act ;)

You can't compare the Ghz speed of different processor families. They work in different ways, you need to look at a charts that compare actual CPU performance. Have a look at https://www.tomshardware.com for charts.
