Best current deals forum needed!

Options
Why isn't there a single, unified forum for 'best current deals' on standard consumer appliances?

I mean fridges, tvs, washing machines, mowers etc etc.

The general rule is that we come on here, looking for best advice whenever our current device starts letting us down... and what do we find?

I wanted to post a question today about LCD TVs and found to my dismay that there were at least 4 forums in which it made perfect sense to place the thread. I did just that and then actually got told off by a busybody who didn't seem able to realise that this problem existed.

This is silly. The site is supposed, precisely, to be about savings for consumers and it is downright ridiculous that this situation is allowed to continue. Martin or someone close to him should take a serious look at tidying up the site and providing a single forum where you can go to find all the best deals posted on these standard consumer products.

    An astonishing lack of response.

    Bump.

Is my suggestion so absolutely useless then that it deserves no comment?

Is it only suggestions from in-house MSE personnel that are actually considered and the rest of us can go hang?

Your suggestion is not useless, but it was rather abruptly phrased.

If someone sees a good deal, they will post it in the Quick Grabbit board. If someone wants to find a good deal, they can post on the I Wanna board. Alternatively, if you are looking for technical advice, you could post on the Techies board.

TBH I thought that was self explanatory?

Edit: You posted your request on the Grabbit board - if you had read the sticky at the top of the board you would have seen that it was clearly not the correct place to post, hence the response that you received.

'TBH' it is anything but self-explanatory.

    1. There is no earthly reason why the best current offer for an item needs to be 'grabbed quickly'. It may the seller's long term deal.

    2. I was specifically talking about larger, consumer household appliances - fridges, tvs, w. machines, v. cleaners etc. These are things which we all need to replace as and when our current item starts to fail.

At such times, it would be handy to have a dedicated forum which we could visit immediately to see whether anything good was on offer - and not to have the pages crammed with irrelevant chat about bottles of cola or cinema tickets.

    3. Technical advice? Interesting but irrelevant.

So basically what you are saying is that you want a board dedicated to what you want!

If an offer is long term, then it will be on the Shop But Don't Drop board. Is it really that much of a hardship to search two different boards?

Why would we have a board specifically for items that the average individual only buys every four years? The reason that Grabbit is populated with posts about coca cola and cinema tickets is because people buy them often!

You thought the Techies board was a place to post when you wanted to buy a new tv, so clearly you didn't think it was irrelevant then!

Your response is yet again quite abrupt, and the word thank you is clearly beyond you. Perhaps you should consider why you have had so few responses?

    Your argument is circular.

I have already stated that I posted on the techie board because it was (just about) one of at least 4 boards where one might post such an enquiry. What is irrelevant is the 'looking for technical advice' bit.

Nothing you can say obviates the fact that this is clearly a nonsensical situation and one which needs sorting out.

The fact that these items need replacing rarely is more than made up for by the fact that they are the more expensive household items, sometimes priced in the hundreds of pounds.

My argument stands. There is a glaring omission on this site.

It certainly appears that way! :p

What the OP really wants is the 'Charlton King Board', subtitled 'I can't be bothered to do a simple search, so want everyone to do the research for me'.

mcr, shall we ask for our own board as well? We could share?!! x

    Oh really?

Shall we put the question up in some sort of serious way, then? You know, instead of burying it on this forum where, as the site management hopes, it will quietly die, perhaps actually running it as a suggestion to members?

Let's face the real problem: actual suggestions from site members aren't welcome. They are particularly unwelcome if they're going to mean a bit of site redesign i.e. work/expense.

You seem to think that this is some kind of ego trip on my part. I'm not sure how you derive that and can only assume you are resorting to such unpleasant comments for lack of anything more substantial to support your ideas.

I can assure you that my suggestion is simply an observation drawn from, as Basil Fawlty would have put it, the 'bleeding obvious'.

... for fear of being accused of not taking this issue seriously here goes...

I buy pants on a far more regular basis than TV's or fridges, therefore could we have a pants board; it could be entitled:

Pants (quick grab 'em) Board...

What do you think dmg??

Oh and just to keep the peace with CK, I am helping this issue by keeping it bumped up the boards so those lovely folk at MSE might see it !!(btw I have to disagree with your comment about them not welcoming suggestions but maybe thats just my take on things) ;)
