Ebay's playground, eBays rules.
I'm not saying that you shouldn't end listings early, but it's better to make informed decisions rather than suffer unexpected consequences.
It's not like eBay are renowned for consistent application and enforcement of policy though...<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

Rules are made for breaking , as long as your willing to pay the price if caught
I saved lots of cash ending various house clearance items early , and i`m glad i did.0 -
I've ended loads of items early because of a buyer wanting to purchase it straight away, I have never had any bother from E-Bay, and I have over a 1000 feedback, go for it, Ebay doesn't abide by its own rules, so why should we, if you get knocked off, simply open another account with a different email address."Wisdom doesn't automatically come with old age. if you get knocked off, simply open another account with a different email address.
And different residential address, phone number, password, IP address, credit card details, bank account, paypal address....
It's the person that is suspended, not the account.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

Not a problem if your just a buyer0 -
you don't have to wait for all bids to come in. you can arrange for the person who offered you £80 to bid that amount on the item, and then you simply end tha auction early and select the option sell to highest bidder. but got to be careful the highest bidder is still your £80 guy, otherwise he may become slightly annoyed...0

But if they were "just a buyer" how could they get suspended for ending listings early? That would mean they were a seller?
Or have I missed something?<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

Yes , you have
whilst suspended we could still buy0 -
One way or the other, if an action is likely to get somebody in trouble with eBay, I do not think MSE is really the venue where that should be encouraged or condoned, particularly if somebody is hoping to make a few quid by selling on eBay, rather than saving a few quid by buying through eBay.
If people are aware of the facts and the possible consequences, then at least they can make informed decisions, and take their own risks.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0
