CPS - Carrier Pre-select (or something) - yes, it is something similar to talktalk - you pay BT line rental, and the rest you pay to the ISP

    Yes, CPS = Carrier Pre-Select.

This means you pay your phone line rental to BT, but your calls are automatically routed through your chosen carrier - your carrier of calls is pre-selected.

You don't have to have broadband from the same provider as your line rental, nor do you have to have broadband from your CPS supplier, though you can if you wish.

Up until recently, my line rental was with BT, calls were via TalkTalk (plus 18866 & 1899) and my broadband was with Pipex. I now have the same line rental and call providers, but my broadband is cable from Telewest.
