Water meter- nightmare!

I think you are being totally ripped off and you are probably not the last, are you able to read your meter if so then check the readings that way if you think you are overcharged then dispute it with the water company but once you start don't stop. We are being overcharged £280 by United Utilities and beleive it or not we have 2 Water meters, one on the side of the house in the electric and gas cupboard the other one is on the path outside both of them have different readings bit United Utilities have used the higher reading. We pay £10 a week on a card and United Utilities want us to put it up, we have told them to take us to court but they won't. 3 people in our house we save water as much as possible. This is why we know they are wrong with the bill,

come on salfordman1 stop going on about the same thing.
Read my reply to "Water Company Rip Off" and check out your meter before you invite them to take you to court. If you are not paying enough now you will only have to pay it later.0 -
There's definitely a leak. (Unfortunately) I haven't had to top my ponds up for probably over a year.
How much do you top it up by? I guess that's the main culprit. It's pointless not using the dishwasher (By the way they use less water than hand washing apparently), if that's insignificant compared to the pond filling.
I'd second the rain water option. Get a cheap water butt and diverting kit and run a pipe from the overflow into the pond. Maybe with a control lever (Roofs collect a huge amount of water and you don't want it overflowing the pond during rainy periods.)
As mentioned, tap water is bad for fish (and biological fish filters if you've got one). The chlorine kills the bacteria colony in the filter and can harm the fish. If you must use it, you can get stuff to nullify the chlorine or leave it to stand over night (probably not practical for you).0
