Dell Vostros are 19.5v with centre pin positive.

What power supply did you plug into it?

hey sorry, I was half way typing this message at the same time on the phone to dell! I then exit the screen as I got through (eventually) and assumed the mesage did not post!

    but it sounds positive! (suprisingly)

DELL are sending an engineer down tomorow. The guy on the phone said he suspects the mothboard had gone (when I s*** my self) but then he said the engineer would repair it on site at no cost to me... if it is the motherboard that is!

The thing with companies like DELL is they would say something over the phone but do another i.e. charge me  . However, it is not dells engineer coming down but another companies so it maybe my lucky day! I just dont want to get my hopes up for no reason!

I just hope they dont turn around, look at me, shake there head, and say its not covered! How horible would that be!

thanks every1 for the help 2date, and lets see what would hapen 2mrw!

    thanks again!

Dell are the best, i dropped my laptop last month, damaged the hard drive, played dumb with them, it failed hard drive test and dell sent me a new one out the same day!!

Maybe the wrong adapter episode was simply a co-incidence and there was a problem with the MB all along

Either way, good result. Dell won't repair without telling you the cost first - as I found out when I wrecked my 6 week old lappie by spilling wine on it. And previously, when I needed a new screen on a lappie way, way out of warranty.

    Good result :)
