I would like to check with you, What voltage markings does the psu have on it, regarding the volage output. How does this compare to the correct psu markings.
Voltage ??
AC or DC ??
Polarity on the centre pin ??
Wattage - really dont care about this at this moment.
Let us know as I suspect you have only blown an internal fuse in the laptop somewhere inside, note they also do not 'look' like a fuse, they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and cost as you asked, just a few pence.0 -
how much would this cost to fix?
We don't know what's wrong with it.
You really should contact Dell support. They'll get you try a number of diagnostics. If needs be, they'll collect it (unless you bought an on-site warranty/service option), find out what's wrong, tell you if it's covered by the warranty and if it isn't how much they want to fix it.
Once you know what's wrong, then you take Dell's price and shop around.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

As its a Vostro its small business which means it comes with next day on-site warranty as standard. Not sure if the warranty covers this issue though.Debt_Free_Chick wrote: »(unless you bought an on-site warranty/service option)0 -

They'll certainly diagnose the problem for free. You might need to pay for the repair though - but they'll quote you a price first, so you can then compare a Dell repair with a "local" repairthe thing is they are not open till tomorow!

...go to DELL as it is 1 year standard warrenty and act dumb...
As with nearly everything in life, you nearly always end up paying thought the nose for stupidity. Paying twice is even worse.
Think a PSU is around £70 from Dell, if I remember correctly. The batteries I have no idea of. You don't have to buy Dell parts, but probably you will invalidate the T&C.
On your conscience be it, but if the mboard has gone, it will cost many hundreds and possibly purchasing another laptop may be cheaper.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.
