I`ve had a letter too. I`m £224 in debt so mine is going up from £65 to £100. Yes it`s a big increase but I am a fair bit in debt. I`ll leave it at £100 but if I notice that I`m getting in credit it will be reduced. I could have increased it months ago but I decided to wait for them to do it.

Again, if that £224 was built up over 12 months, you were underpaying by about £18-19 per month.

Thus assuming you use the same over the next 12 months, you'll need to pay £102 over the next 12 months to cover usage and debt before any price rises.

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

£100 is the most I`ve ever paid but this house has 15 radiators and its 3 storey. It`s new build so I`m kind of surprised how much we`re using on gas. The boiler is A rated so it must be us. Electric has been £91 at the most per quarter since I moved here. I`m just going to have to reduce what we use as there is no way I`m paying more than £100. Time to be more energy efficient on gas and put on another layer instead of turning the thermostat up.

I'd agree but think this approach is unsustainable. The way prices have risen and are predicted to rise then it's going to be a constant battle to keep home finances in line. The only true way to keep the heating bills down is not to use the fuel needed for it in the first place and that's an option which doesn't even get off the starting blocks. It's no wonder some people are frightened to switch their heating on. The sooner there's an investigation into energy prices the better as suppliers have their customers by the short and curlies!

after supsecting that we were being overcharged in Feb this year I contacted EON and they corrected our monthly payment (after several calls) from £197 to £122 based up to date meter readings, and refunded approx £400. Now they say our bill needs to go up from £122 to £380 per month as we are over £800 in debt!! How can this happen? Our energy use if anything has reduced.

Now I can't switch until the balance is cleared! Help!!

will help if you can post your bill details for the past few quarters SMARTD, i.e. how many units you have used, how much you have paid.

If you were £400 in credit in Feb and this was refunded, and then you have (over)used £800 in the last quarter, it sounds like a major billing !!!!-up.

Yep you right and we can`t even rely on summer being warm enough to turn the heating off totally.
  • EON are pathetic and when you threaten to change they actually slag off the other companies!

We have gone from paying £40 / month to now having to pay £57 + another £16 over 10 months because we are suddenly in debt.

We were better of using a card meter!

We live in a 1 bedroom flat and use no more power now than we did when we had a card meter and yet we have this huge hike in 1 year!

They also told us the uSwitch site was lying about how much they could save us by switching a) to another company or b) to another tariff and then when you called an hour later and spoke to someone else they could save us money and calling later again they could save us less...

We are pulling our hair out with them at the moment!
  • I had a letter from Eon at the weekend, DD going up from £74 to £106, I make that 43%.
Just phoned them and they say I am currently using £94 plus owe £56, I have settled for £99 pm

I had a look at switching, with Npower I can save £165-200pa but they have a poor record, I will stick with Eon but prices are getting ridiculous.

I am not sure where the UKs gas comes from but someones on to a good thing before it reaches my boiler, the same with the Electric.
It is not going to be a cost cutting time during the summer at this rate, the central heatings on today.

    Hey guys,

I have had a letter today from EON saying my DD are going up from £50 to £65 a month now (For both elec and gas). We had our bill dated 19th May (Quarterly bill) which said we was £68.41 in debit, not taking into account that our DD goes out at the end of each month - Am I right in thinking that after our DD has gone out, will will only be £18.41 in debit?! (Apart from the gas/elec we have used from then til now)..

I called them to say I dont want the DD changing and she said that it will be changing as of next month and that the reason it has gone up is because it will a) cover us for winter and b) cover us for what we are in debit by.

As far as im aware, we are only £18 in credit this quarter so they should only put it up like an extra £5 a month, not £15. We live in a brand new 2 bed town house, which is tiny! I tried explaining that the heating is off now, so our bills wont be costing as much but the lady wasnt accepting what I was saying.

You guys sound like you know what your talking about - can anyone shed any light for me?!

    Thanks xx
