The 10am-3pm, 4pm-9pm cable thresholds are outlined in the cable traffic management T&C's outlined above, but that is throttling, not a we are going to cut you off/send you nasty letters/bill you extra limit. Outside those hours (14hrs/day), you can download as much as you want without being throttled.
Yeah, and as I've said previously I much prefer that than a download cap that other ISPs implement. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
I was really posting to say the 5GB/week download (quoted by junkey) limit is not true, it doesn't exist on cable or adsl. The throttling policy is fairly well publicised, and easily avoidable.
Not is the 5gb a week limit true, i'm living as we speak (Metaphorically speaking) As I said, phone virgin up and see if you can get any member of their sales team to define unlimited, ie ask
"Is there a limit to how much you can download, or is unlimited actually that, unlimited"
You won't get an answer, I didn'tNothing happens until something moves.0 -
...and loner smells of working for virgin, your company stinks, as I said folks call and see what answers you get (Or dont as the case will be)
Nice try on the scare tactics there loner

Next you'll be telling us we all need ID cards and DNA tests to "Protect us" from the evil downloadersNothing happens until something moves.0 -
Like Rev I've been with them since the days of 512Kb broadband and I think I've lost my boradband connection maybe three times in all those years. It's a far more reliable service than ADSL you're more likely to get close to the advertised speed than with ADSL. The newsgroups are excellent for support, they're very useful for finding out what is going on with issues with the TV service.
To Pinkdrink who said they didn't know how to get a good deal with Virgin, it's easy. You just phone up and ask to be put through to the cancellations department and then say you want to cancel. They then say "how about if we improved the package we give you and cut the cost?", you say OK I won't cancel and you've got a btter deal. There's a massive thread about it somewhere on MSE. I know when I phoned up they took £25 a month off my bill and moved us form M tv to XL tv and also put us on a better phone deal. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends

I use VirginMedia (ex NTL) and have no complaints at all. It has always worked well for me.
I had a slight problem the other day with their PCGuard but it is all running well now.
I had 4mb Broadband and was recently upgraded for free to 10mb and it is running great!!
In addition I have never had any problems at all with their phone lines.0 -
I've got to say Virgin residential is good when it's working and as long as nothing changes then it's usually fine, I think a lot of network issues are going to be resolved once the 50meg upgrade comes in as it will relieve a lot of pressure on the existing framework and most of the heavy users will be shifted over to that if it's a decent enough service.
I've only had three problems over the years with mine, neither of them being Virgin's fault but they've always sent an engineer out within 48 hours and had it resolved.
They even gave me free V+ tv for being a long standing customer0 -
I've downloaded more than 5gig this week and have done on many occasions so I obviously have no 5gig per week limit on my service.
I've had my speed throttled on occasion, but the info about that is available on their site, it's not 'hidden'.Sigless0 -

You must be the only person with PCGuard running well, it's a load of junk and shouldn't be let anywhere near your PC.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... On Sky's top broadband package you have a download limit of 40GB, you'll get a couple of warning if you go over, then they tell you they no longer want your custom.
Sky are currently paying the BT phone line install charge if you push them. There's currently an offer with BT for £30 install.
You can get with Virgin Media XL TV package, L broadband and L phone for £35 - Direct Debit and eBilling, if you call to cancel and tell them that's how much it is for the same service with Sky.
I'd post in the excellent support newsgroups with your issues - see: www.virginmedia.com/newsgroups (Remember not to top post reply)
For cable broadband support the group is: virginmedia.support.broadband.cable
Don't give out any personal info, just your alias (the part of your email before the @ and state BY for example pinkdrink @ by) so they can locate your account.
I have to admit I have no problem at the moment with xBY Virgin Media Cable.
Thanks for this, i'll deffo check outthe help board. I must admit i'm really struggling with all the tech talk so any help is greatly appreciated:T0 -
I live in the Surrey Virgin area (It was Cable & Wireless, then NTL and now Virgin media (a re-branding exercise).
But I have to say that, over the past couple of years, they are really great. I've got 10 meg. and when I check the download speed it is very close to this.
I'm told there is no "cap" and I've had no problem downloading from BBC Iplayer, YouTube and also I-tunes U (which is great by the way).
In the past the service has been s**t, but it seems to be much better now. I originally switched to Cable and Wireless just to get away from BT because I hated them so much!
A couple of weeks ago, I enquired about going back to BT (just out of curiosity). They said they wanted £120, their broadband would be only about 4.1Meg (advertised as "up to" 8 meg) and would cost more than the Virgin package AND had caps in place. I gently reminded them that this is the 21st Century and maybe they should think about joining it!0
