Yes, this happened to us. RM refused to stop the redirection as well, despite the fact that we took ID to our local sorting office as proof of whom we are. They prefer to protect the fraudster despite the fact that mail theft is a criminal act.

Thats correct. I received my card a couple of days ago before receiving the pin and i didn't require activating. However, I don't know if this is the case for all debit cards.

I received a new bank card other month which didnt need to be reactivated but then it was a replacement card as opposed to a new card as the old one was lostNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
In response to those who don't think that I know what I am talking about, actually I DO.
The first we knew of the redirection was a letter from RM addressed to "the occupier". We opened it and discovered that RM were going to redirect our mail. A redirection that we had not set up.
And I said using a stolen credit card NUMBER, not stolen credit card, so I don't know why you (barncopxx) went off into one about the banks using TNT. Perhaps you should read my post again.
We rang the "dedicated" redirection centre only to be told that the redirection request was genuine (I think not, bearing in mind that WE hadn't requested it) and that they would not stop it. We took our ID to the local sorting office to ask the manager there to ring the redirection centre as we thought that they might actually believe a RM manager who had the proof of our ID in his hands. The manager did ring the redirection centre with our proof of ID but they still wouldn't remove the redirection, prefering to believe the fraudster over us.
We then reported it to the police and RM wouldn't give the police the details of where our mail was supposed to be going to because of "confidentiality".
I stick by my original comment. RM have cost us a fortune in trying to put this right because they wouldn't cancel the redirection. RM have treated us appallingly - and yes, we have complained. Not that they will do anything about, we haven't even had a letter of acknowledgement from them.0 -
well i cant comment on cancelling the rediection as i dont know how the redirection service operate but the system worked
you were forewarned a redirection was put in place on the property you reside in
people complained when they had to physicaly take documentation, forms et to po counters
an online service is what people got
as for giving out info, there are regulations in place regarding giving out info to the police
i know when the police want info from delivery offices (eg tryingto locate someone when they may only know a rough area) they need through official channels and will be refused if they just show up at the delivery office0 -
I think the question you should be asking of your bank is 'When did you post the card?'
You're naming Royal Mail on the Consumer Vent Board, and whilst I appreciate that RM can (and do) get things wrong, it's a bit unfair at this stage as you don't really know whether the Bank have actually put it into the postal system.
New credit cards usually come with a sticker that says you must phone to activate it, I'm not sure if debit cards are the same.Need to get rid of my Yankee Candle Habit, Not very money saving of me0 -

I have been temted to report him as he doesn't deliver it himself but because he's s pensioner I feel sorry for even thinking it. But a missing bank card is the last straw, phoned bank and card was sent on 24th April. am now trying to get a new card at the moment
a late 70's postie?
if a postie is not delivering the mail themselves then report them
however bear in mind banks (and large companies) are not innocent
i send back loads of letters a day with incomplete/wrong adresses.
even something as simple as misaligned printing0 -

Perhaps you should read the OP?
barncopxx was making a VALID point relevant to the OP - simply qoting your mid-thread hijack slagging off RM as a case in point!I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

Would I be accused of being a little bit cynical if I pointed out that fraudulent use of a Credit Card is using the Bank's money; fraudulent use of a Debit Card is using your money ?!
Absolutely!
Accurate?
Absolutely! :rotfl:
I thought it was RM policy to retire people at age 65. I know my friend who was a postie HAD to retire at that age 5 years ago.
I think if this guy is not doing the job that RM are paying him for, then he shouldn't be employed by them.
OP
good luck with getting a new card.0 -
just an update, I got my card today on letter header from bank post date was 24/05/2008. hmm oh well I'm happy I got my card anyway. But on the downside I now cannot use this card because bank issued a new card to be sent, so I have to wait again (hopefully not that long)Need to get rid of my Yankee Candle Habit, Not very money saving of me0

I think that is illegal now - employers can now no longer force an employee to retire just because they have reached a certain age AFAIK
