Scared - May have cervical cancer

To cut a long story short..

26th March: Abnormal smear and referred for a colposcopy
4th April: Colposcopy carried out and told I need further investigation
22nd April: Lletz, biopsies & hysteroscopy under GA
9th May: Today the consultant phoned and told me she needs to see me on Monday (12th May)

Now most people who has been through a cancer or any serious illness will go straight onto the internet and find out more information, just like I did.

But the information i've found is being called in to see a consultant at such short notice will be bad news.

I really don't know why i'm posting this here, I suppose i'm kind of hoping someone will come along and tell me evething will be alright

My prayers are with you. As someone who has recently had a test and still awaiting the results, I now know my fears are nothing compared to yours. My fingers are crossed until Monday.

You are posting because you are scared and you need to talk to someone, someone who is not involved, someone who isn't going to crack up because you are dear to them. I am not going to tell you not to worry of course you are going to worry but remember that worry is interest paid on a debt that you might never have. If you have cancer you will have enough to worry about then and if you don't you will be worrying for nothing. If you have cancer you will get treated and remember your dismay at being called so soon after your exams is in it's own way good news. Good news because the rate of recovery for any kind of cancer is best when it is caught early. Sounds as if this is being followed very closely and if it is then it is caught early.
I went with a young girl, my best friend's daughter; when she had some of the same scares as you; to a clinic. She had irregular smears and the tests that you described, they did a small lazer treatment and she came out a basket case. They used vinegar for this treatment and we had read the leaflets telling us this before she went in. She was nervous I was nearly hysterical and trying not to show it so when she came out I said "cor I couldn't half murder some fish and chips now with vinegar." We both burst out laughing thank God. She is fine now it was caught early enough and was precancerous sure enough that was 5 years ago.

Wow.. thank you all for your quick replies, I really do appreciate them.

Taffyscot, you really have made some very valid points there. At the moment I am trying to remain strong, for my mum if no one else.. she's a born worrier. I'm not a parent, but i'm sure those who are will understand that. What you've described is what I went through at my initial colposcopy, with the vinegar lol.

Tulip, i'm taking my sister with me this time.. she'll hold it together better than my mum.

My appointment is at 5pm (after she's fnished surgery) so I hope all who read this will have their fingers crossed for me.

had abnormal smear a number of yours ago between my two sons but ok now thank god so know that feeling and i will be thinking about you on monday with fingers crossed
