This topic has been discussed many times.
Clearly the cash office are aware the coupons are being handed in. Whether or not they get the money back is no concern of shoppers - and as they continue to accept them each month, clearly they are quite happy with them.
They advertise that they are happy to accept coupons for money off at other supermarkets (eg Waitrose/Morrison), and obviously don't get the money back off them! Are they bothered?
Using coupons that Tesco get the money off the manufacturer for isn't a privilege any way - it's just sheer abuse! They are ripping off the manufacturer by making them pay up for the face value of the coupon plus a handling fee, even though Tesco are well aware the coupon has not been accepted in line with its printed conditions.0 -
Is it me or do we have more than one troll on this thread (could be one and the same person, I don't know).
I now just ignore anyone trying/failing to justify their own use of the DM book tokens, I stopped reading after your first line Quentin but you don't give up do you?
I am sure most of the posters on here know better by now anyway.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I have no Tesco near me (yes it is possible) and shop only at Asda but I do agree it is the supermarkets abusing the manafacturer, it is more likely that the manufacturer stop making coupons, as they produce them to get consumers to try their products if everyone uses a coupon and doesn't buy the item the manufacturer will realise thousands of coupons have been redeemed but sales have not increased in line, we may start to see more and more coupons for supermarkets like Morrisons etc(no Tesco and Asda) who do not have an open coupon policy.Saying that though I wouldn't use a DM book coupon or out of date ones as there are plenty of others and I don't want to draw attention to myself and rock the boat.

I have read through some of these posts and became confused about what coupons you could use at Tesco. So i emailed them and asked and this is the reply i got:
I appreciate your query with regards to Clubcard voucher. I have detailed below some information on the acceptance of coupons in our stores which I hope will help you.
All Tesco specific coupons display the Tesco logo. We'll only accept these at the till if you buy the product shown on the coupon at the time.
We're happy to accept a non-Tesco product coupon even if you don't buy the item. But, the coupon must be in date and Tesco must sell the product. If you present more than one identical coupon you need to purchase the same number of products. This also includes coupons printed from the Internet, but these will only be accepted at the discretion of the Store Manager.
I hope this has helped to explain things for you. Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
Doesn't help me as i have no idea if my local store excepts internet coupons that seems to change with each cashier. But hopefully this will help someone else.

You say you ignore anyone with a different view to yours. No argument with that.
But in that case, it is somewhat hypocritical of you to continually post across this forum in threads (and start one of your own) that we should not use a particular coupon in a particular supermarket, yet not want to enter into the discussion.
As long as you keep pontificating about us not using this coupon you will have to expect people taking an opposite view and posting it in reply.
I see you make no comment on the whole coupon business with Tesco being just an abuse anyway, designed only to improve Tesco's profits at the expense of the manufacturers who Tesco rip off by accepting their coupons as cash!
And whilst on the subject of hypocrisy, you say your campaign is motivated by your worry that the Tesco policy will be stopped if people continue to "abuse" it.
Yet in another thread this week you crow about your success in getting a free X-Box out of Tesco last year under their R + R policy. And then grumble that they stopped the R + R policy. Maybe you could remind us why that was stopped?

Doesn't really help as store manager has discretion.....Only real way is to get official statement from your store manager and then take that along with you and show any snotty SA's or supervisors, I think it takes a lot of bottle to do it and not sure if it might prove counter-productive in the long run with all the staff moaning about customers putting them right! - In my local store they certainly make you feel like criminals and seem to enjoy making you 'squirm' a bit whilst they decide if they are going to take them or not!!! I have been having trouble with even the young ones recently.....If I went more often and could be bothered walking out and going somewhere else I would but I only do one shop a week and like to get it over with!:p Have a good [STRIKE]Tesc[/STRIKE][STRIKE]Asd[/STRIKE]WHO? day - Err....I still wish Mozzies had a better website even though they are now on MyS!

As I Previously said some of us here need to use coupons as we have very little income and debts that we are trying to pay off so we can live a normal life.
If people abuse this life line then they will make life even harder for all of us. struggling from day to day. remember there is a recession coming up which will make life even harder for all of use. coupons need to be used in accordance with store policy otherwise they will simply stop it.
Hi R4pture and all ...
A rarely aired point ....
When I first joined this site I received a huge amount of advice .. help .. and patience with my questions ... and during my time with MSE I have saved a huge amount of money ...
MSE has now become a community ... and many see it as that ... working for the same goal ... I personally feel it is unfair for some to happily feed off the advice given by the group as a whole ... but then openly adopt an every man for himself policy and a grab it while it's hot agenda ...
As you have said R4pture ... there are many members relying on this benefit ... and I think we should show some personal morality in this ... and work as team players for the good of the community ...
Goodness ... that may be my most serious post yet ... and now for something completely different ....
