I may be wrong pash, but how I understood/interpreted the message from passion was that she was talking about the chat thread that was started about 6 weeks ago:confused::confused: not years ago!!

I know about the private site, I don't think passion does though Maybe she will clear it up when she comes online.

Yes there was another thread a couple of months ago that never really took off and disappeared.I think that was the one that Passion8 was referring to.

As a newbie to this thread -only a couple of months posting -I can see this from both sides. Most of the time the chat is pretty Boots related or money saving related but just occasionally it goes too far . I am thinking of a few weeks ago when it degenerated into a late night argument thread between a few people. Sometimes it reads like an MSN conversation between a few people who seem to know each other in RL. I do think that those type of conversations would be better taking place elsewhere.
There is a risk that the powers that be at MSE will close the thread completely if it veers too far off topic too often. I think that would be a shame for all of us who like Bootsing and chatting about Boots related stuff, make up , cosmetics etc.

The above post was written before I saw the previous post.

Oh dear me - another "original" on the case eh? You took your time didn't you?

Pash, if you'd have been taking any notice of these threads, you'd have realised that another thread was started by another user - nothing at all to do with *your* thread with it's "62 thousand views". The one that's not that *private* btw - (see your own link). It's noticeable that it's locked though isn't it? I wonder why that happened? Maybe you could enlighten a few of the "newbies" eh?

And where they *chose* to go means nothing. They still ended up in the pub, in your *famous thread* didn't they? Or did they?

So some of them stick around and share advice and post on here do they?

Then all that means is that what I said doesn't apply to those people doesn't it?

Why you've quoted my post I don't know, but one thing that does stand out about your post is, (for a change), you've forgotten your begging bowl haven't you? Something that's noticeable to many posters btw.

Now why not open another little thread in the bar and pick the bones out of this? Or better still, ask your "friends" to enlighten you further. I'm sure they're raring to.

You've now got another accolade - you're the first user I've stuck on ignore. Hopefully you'll be the last.

I am sorry if I misunderstood which thread you meant, (though as I am on your ignore list *fame at last!* you will not see my apology, thought I am sure one of your "fans" will tell you all about it. ) The "private" thread I mentioned is still going and will obviously not have a link posted on here now will it:p !? The thread from the arms is closed as it was a part one, continued in part 2, 3, 4 etc ...was part one of the grabbit thread not also "closed" as it moved to another "part"
now I do not want to fall out with anyone but I was mearly adding to the debate as it is (as far as I know) a free site, and I stick by Martins rules and be nice to all moneysavers... if you feel that I was not being nice to you then I am sorry as that was not my intention at all ...
:rotfl: lol at the "begging bowl" comment.. share and share alike is my motto
... I receive and I give.. not that it is any of your business, but hope that clears things up.. now..
hasnt it been a lovely day today ladies and gents!
anyone got anything nice from BOOTS today?

    Ok headsup:
The Boots 12 X 12 scrapbook albums (cream fabric or brown parcel paper'ish) are reduced to £1.78 ea & BOGOF
Refil page inserts (black or white) are down to 68p again BOGOF

    6 albums = TS
    16 refils = TS

If anyone spots any of these around the Gloucestershire borders & not needing them for personnal use PLEASE consider grabbing them for me & meeting up to do the exchange ( cash 4 scrapbooks )
Or if you are Liverpool way my son is at the Uni so you could stash them in his halls until I collect him at end of term.
They are very heavy so postage wouldn't be an option I don't think (pay per drop are very cheap but unsure of max weight but happy to ask)

Again I am good for the money although I know it's a HUGE ask I am desperate for as many as I can get & hope someone can help me out here.

    Thanks for reading.

Hi hogshead, I will have a look out for you in Liverpool, and get them for you. No problem about taking them to the uni neither. Amelias's mummy asked for a photo, if you can post one that would be great. I will let you know if I get any and you can PM me to let me know which halls he is in.

The only thing more expensive than kids, is kids in Uni. (I had 2 there at the same time)   Very scary and expensive, but well worth it with hindsight

For anyone whos interested they had plenty of reduced photo albums in the small store in blackburn, these included the mini 75p ones. they also had the reduced vasline mens range, 50p for body washes and 88p for body lotion.

I'm interested - it means people like myself, who live nowhere near Blackburn btw ;) can at least follow the trends. So thank you.

You know that two threads don't work - search for the one that sunk without trace. (I'll give you a clue - it wasn't this one.)
it did not sink it was moved to a secure, private site, which is still going strong,
it was actually one of the fastest growing, most viewed threads on the site
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=162776
part one viewed over 62 thousand times.. I think that says it all
And why, when someone has a beef about the thread going off topic, (usually from someone that hardly contributes anything  ), are the "original people on this Boots thread" dragged into it like they're some sort of elite group that have disappeared to pastures new?
    actually they are/did :p
They ended up in the pub area of the board didn't they?
"they" chose to go to the arms as that is where "chat" is menat to take place
If they were such dedicated posters of the Boots thread, they'd stick around and help the newbies.
"they" actually are all still around and still share and post on here

Dear Pash, I really enjoyed your post, but I am a newbie compared to you since I've only been around since last year. The thread you pointed to is closed and I could not find another thread for boots chat!? Can you kindly point me to the right direction?

I've been around enough to see this topic of the length-of-the-thread-and-the-chat-going-on pop up several times (I am doing it again, aren't it?), and for some reason people take offense at this. And yes, sometimes it is people who are just popping in for the first time and expect a neat thread like the other ones here and become agitated when they see "just" chat. I've had the opinion that the chat is nice and it is why we, bootsers, bother to go out and try the glitches and report back. These offers and glitches would go unreported and undiscovered if we didn't feel like this was our cozy spot and we were always eager to share. So I have been against cutting down on the chatting in the past and have said so in here. I have even suggested using different colours to report glithes alerts and letting the black for chat.
So do not get me wrong when I say... that this thread feels like it is really getting out of control. If a day passes, 10 pages of chat pile up and there just isn't the time to read through everything. Requests and new info are completely lost in the middle of the chat. And except for a few, I and perhaps others are beginning to feel alienated by this thread.

I know I am ressurecting this topic, and I believe I was partly to blame for this last reapperance of this discussion, since someone mentioned that in a month there had been 5 new threads, which I investigated and corrected since it was not true. But we have now 1 new thread every 2 weeks and I can say, and perhaps others can corroborate, that in the recent past a thread would last for as long as the deals were on. And it is not even the case that it is because there are lots of people posting. I remember there were a lot more people a few months ago. And (I will be "killed" for this) it does feel some people have highjacked the thread.
Everyone jumped on Josie for saying what she felt, partly agreeing with me, and I really don't think it is fair. I completely agree with her. The info that MrsT posted on the 341 express/ model.me glitch got lost in the middle of all those comments and shopping lists. And personally, I think shopping lists are helpful when we are first trying combinations, but after some time, we all know that you can use a till spit to get some wipes for free. And Josie and others has been around for a long time (2 years) for people to jump at them for expressing an opinion!!

I know I will most likley be snipped at. But I wanted to express my feelings about this. I've really loved this thread and it has helped me in the past get a lot of nice things for myself and my friends. However, it pains me to try and read through the posts, see questions go unanswered, see that many of the oldies have disappeared from here, and mostly read people snipping at others for having a (constructive) criticism to add. Forums like this are made of goodwill of everyone, not just a few. But this is just my opinion.

edit: I started writing this before I read the previous posts and I have no idea why there is so much hostility in here or even what has happened in the past. I have only been here since Feb 2007. Everyone is free to have an opinion and please be nice to each other!!

Summary: I am not saying I don't agree with the chat. Just that there could be a bit less. I am sure everyone, like me, loved to read passion8 report about how her username was discovered, for example or to help when one of our booster friends got in trouble with ther husband for too much bootsing and learning how it turned out!! But it is hard to read everything, and this will just alienate people, less and less people will investigate glitches and report back, and everyone will be worse off. we will all loose if only a couple of people post here their every thought.

And orangemonkey, if you compare the number of the posts about noting and the posts about too much chatting I am sure the former are a clear winner, so having this "healthy" discussion does not really add more than 1 page of an 18-page thread that started 2 and a half days ago.

The last time I sent something back by Royal Mail it was weeks before I got a refund. That was only after frantic emails from them trying to confirm that the parcel had not gone astray. Could not get a reply to emails (I hate ringing them) eventually they wrote with an apology that items had been received and credit was immediate.

You are better ringing them up and asking for a courier to collect it. I will never send through royal mail again too worrying. I only sent 'signed for' but if total is more than 10 x 1st class post you would need special delivery. Courier is free, and no worries about returns getting lost.
OOOPS...already sent it yesterday !?! Did get proof of posting it was first class so will give them a call on Tueasday to check as they should have had it by then.

    Thanks for the advice
