Mizmir's determined to get there diary

Interesting to see so many starting new plans and diaries. It is that time of year - for me anyway - academic year so September always seems like a new year.
Have been musing on all this myself (toyed with a new diary but think for now this one will do! terrified if I start a new one noone will find it!!).
I had a terrific day yesterday - worked with a client and we saw a HUGE improvement in her dog (and in her confidence) - then worked with my own and saw the same. (All have dog-dog aggression issues - seems to be what I deal with a lot!). Days like that make me realise that 1. I can do this and 2. it is more satisfying and enjoyable than anything else I do. So I am even more determined to get myself into a position where that is what I do.
I know "the world outside" will think I am mad - swapping a well paid, well regarded job to be a dog trainer - but I don't care. As long as I can make enough to live reasonably (am lucky that OH is already doing what she wants to and so will continue with good income) then it will be OK. But I do have to pay the debts off and set myself up sensibly for this - I don't want to rely on being a "kept woman"! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I had been planning to start reducing my hours next year - but I have new projects at work which will make this difficult (and I will still be in debt then). So I have a new target. The new projects are going to be good to work on - they will occupy me full time for the next 2 years and part time for 2 years after that. So I will spend the next two years continuing to build up training experience etc, paying off debts and getting some reserves while still working full time. Then when the projects reduce I'll go fractional and do more training with the aim of full time DT in 4 years time. That allows me a year or so slippage before I am 50 which is my absolute target for being "sorted".
Feels more comfortable and sensible. And that time will fly by I think! By the time I drop my hours I should be debt free and have a reserve of around £10K. By the time I go full time I will have built that up to at least a year's salary. But will have done both without over stressing myself too much.0 -
:mad::mad: Just checked my MBNA statement and they have put up the interest rate to 15% - it was supposed to be 5.75% lob. have just spoken to them and they say it was always fixed - well I KNOW that is not what I was told at the time because I was very careful to get all of my cards onto lob rates.:mad::mad:
So now I have to decide what I can do. Think will try to transfer it all away from MBNA to another card. But I could do without it - and the £96 they have charged in interest!:mad::mad:0 -
and good riddance! Have transferred my remaining balance from MBNA to my Capital One card - LOB at 6.28% - 3% handling fee - but that is only 2 months interest on the MBNA card at 15% and as this is a balance of over £6K (my biggest card balance!) it will be a lot cheaper in the long run. And I get out of the clutches of MBNA - the barstewards!
Will take great pleasure in closing my account with them once all this has cleared and will tell them it is because their advisor mislead me!
Anyway. Now have to update my snowball and do some recalculating - hopefully won't muck things up too much.
Edited to say: doesn't effect debt free date - but has added £300 to the debt0 -
Time for an update on the list - rather thrown by the MBNA fiasco so have added that so I can cross it out (well makes me feel better!).
- [strike]Empty/fill dishwasher[/strike] DONE - at least first load - might be another later!

- [strike]Make debt payment[/strike] DONE - paid £50 off my BC account

One positive thing I have just noticed. This time last month we were already over £850 o/d. Today we are still nearly £400 in credit! :T Plus we have £800 in the emergency/annual bills account and about £450 tied up in MB. Am hoping therefore that we can reduce the o/d this month (or overpay same on a card).0 - [strike]Empty/fill dishwasher[/strike] DONE - at least first load - might be another later!

Look forward to reading about them Dragon!
Yes MBNA are barstewards - but they are gone! Balance transfer should be through in a week or so then I can close the account and tell them to get stuffed! Normally keep accounts with decent credit limits open in case of good offers later but with MBNA I really don't care. I don't want to owe them anything ever again.
Just done the vernon pools thing - lost 31p on the DOND - so will see if I can withdraw the money tomorrow (profit £4.69) and hope the £20 tracks as well.
Nice offer if it does - thanks hypno's thread followers!0 -

*sniggers* always nice when you can do something like that and as you said at least it is not knocking your DFD back!

Re what people think when you chuck in a "safe" career for a "whacky" one.....When I left stockbroking a few years ago to do hypnotherapy and reflexolgy, people thought I was bonkers.......when I was offered a chance to go back into stockbroking, those same people tried to talk me out of accepting.

I agree - it is all that matters - and I think those who really matter will understand completely!0 -
