The asda policy is up to 10% of manufacturers coupons off your bill. If you have coupons that are ASDA specific then you have to buy the product. We used to be able to take loads, but people abusing the system have made them upstairs put a limit on it. :o

I was refused any at all the other day in Tesco, as they said I had to buy the product. So, I queried it at CS afterwards who said 1 voucher of each type, up to 10% of the bill.

Went back later and used self-scan and it accepted a £3 Joey on a £10 spend.

At another Tesco I use, the self-scan till called someone over when I put in two different vouchers though. The CS lady removed them and told me it was a no-no.

I guess you just have to keep on trying every time - they can't make up their minds.

If you are refused coupons at the till in Tesco, take your receipt to CS and ask if you are allowed to use one. They will then give you the money in cash. I had to do this the other day as the check out operator didnt know if the Joey voucher could be used or not so the supervisor told me to go to CS on my way out. Luckily there wasnt a queue and I got the £3 in cash.

Just been into Asda at Bexleyheath and would only accept the one I'd bought
back to Tescos and get the points as well!!
I didn't realise that the £3.00 Joey worked as well I'll have to raid by paper recycling bin tonight....

After reading about everyone's successes with coupons at various stores, I thought I would start using them too. So off I toddled to local little asda for normal shop £40+. Handed over 1x £1 huggies coupon (from buying emergency pack on holiday) and was told that have to buy product to use coupons! Exit one redfaced customer! :o _pale_

How does everyones else manage it?
What did I do wrong?

I've had a redface many a time over vouchers. Put it down to experience and try again.

Tesco are more lenient in taking vouchers than Asda.
  • Thanks - went to Tesco today but didn't have the nerve after Asda!
will try to try again later in week! Have just got some tesco clothing coupons too and am hoping to get some reduced school stuff on other threads!

i tried using a £1 off Warbutons voucher the other day in my tesco (i work there) and it wouldnt take it off.. the lad asked me if id actually bought £1 worth of warbutons bread.. (i hadnt - only had a 61p warbutons loaf - thought i might get an extra 39p off my shop) so i said "oh cant remember.. but it doesnt matter i'll try it another time" :o .. i got dead embarrassed and as i work there didnt want any trouble. So i relucantly paid out for the bread (i usually buy 25p value bread)

So im guessing in our store (old swan, liverpool) dont accept vouchers unless you buy the product and only if you spend at least the amount stated.

I think its just down to luck. If you get someone nice then your ok, if you don't then you don't. All you can do is ask all they can say is yes or no. I once got £30 off a £70 shop just with vouchers, i just presented them right at the end once everything was in the bags & they were taken.
No one said it was gonna be easy!
  • Theres a huge sign outside my local sainsburys saying that Tesco Vouchers can be used in the Sainsburys store! That'd be the Marshall Lake Road, Stratford Road!
