For obvious reasons, it wasn't rolled out across the entire country at the same time, but area by area. I think there are about two areas left to go and by that point all the problems should be sorted.
I can understand it making two jobs, but three. At least you know your monthly fee is being spent well.
One thing, please do keep in mind that British Gas Residential Energy and British Gas Home Services are two separate companies (once again). Both are owned by Centrica, but are separate.
If you need to contact them for anything, then the breakdown team are on 0845 600 5100 or engineers@house.co.uk and the membership team are on 0845 600 5090 or homecare@house.co.uk

Yes I had read on here that they were separate so I can keep on my cover without having my energy supplied by them.
Did you get my pm ok?0 -
I wouldnt touch the five year British Gas Deal with a barge pole. After all the price of gas may go down.On the 15th Sept The Centrica Chief Executive actually said "That this year and next would be particularly difficult, but we are confident wholesale gas prices will fall over the medium term as supplies increase." So while BG actively promote the five year deal, its parent company believe that prices will drop.?
In any case if you do decide to fix your price,Brit Gas are still the most expensive kids on the block.PF.0 -
ToughRef,
Any idea what the increase in the discounted prices will be, says on theBG website that you will be writing to customers to confirm the increase shortly.
Thanks0 -

That is something new, desite having been asked the question by the person processing all these discount electricity contracts, management have seemed to have forgotten about the price increase.
But the price has to stay lower than the local electricity supplier, so unless they go up, then the BG prices wont.

i think i may have been gotcha'd
had a call yesterday from BG to tell me how wonderful it would be to come back to them, although didn't mention the fixed price.
was told that i'd get the phone calls and they would send £50 worth of high street vouchers to welcome me back etc etc etc.
To be honest i'm with Powergen at the moment and spend £20 pm on my gas and electric and i'm in credit and i know that they are putting their prices up so hopefully i'm getting out at the right time.
Untill i send my details etc for DD they can't change me yet though right ??0 -

No, if you have agreed to switch on the phone call, then that is a verbal contract and they will start the transfer over.
You are in the first stage of cool off. You will receive a letter shortly. You then have seven days from the day after you receive the letter to cancel.
Hope this helps.

JC, Scottish Power have now put their prices up. Does this mean that when BG put their prices up in 2007 it will be between 6 and 10% cheaper than SP???
Also, just noticed on energyhelpline that BG is showing 1 free month of electricity?!?!?
Thanks0 -

This is a £26 rebate after you have been with them 12 months which is marketed as '1 months free electricity'.0 -
Some pretty strong opinions voiced in this thread on the fixed price to 2010 being another BG rip off.
Anyone want to reconsider yet? (isayoldchap and others)0 -

I would have thought it's a bit early to reconsider yet as the price freeze tariff only came into effect at the end of November.
Personally I decided against it and chose to move away from British Gas altogether. If I had chosen the price freeze fixed price I would be paying £296pa more. I realise that prices will probably rise again this year but they would need to do so by over 30% so at the moment I think I've made the correct choice.
The main thought is - will they continue to rise until 2010 or will they fall ( as has been suggested)? It was just too long for me to tie myself in as I can't see BG or any company for that matter being so good to us - I feel there must be something in it for them too.
Of course it's only my opinion and I may be totally wrong but at the moment I'm saving a lot of money.0
