have you unplugged everything else apart from the Modem ??
have you tried swapping the splitter on the modem for another one ??
I'm at a loss as to why this is happening then...maybe Mr skint , Rex Mundi or one of the others might have more ideas later ?Ex forum ambassador

Actually, the one thing that WILL work, is to restart the computer and then re-connect.
It happens to me sometimes, but not that often that I have bothered to look into it.
PS. It's another reason to use Opera as opposed to IE, as Opera will remember the webpage you on and reopen those pages once you reconnect.0 -
Helen,
Sorry I couldn't get back to you but my green was flashing most of yesterday evening (Sigh!!)
No I haven't downloaded any new drivers etc because my modem is an Alcatel Speedtouch USB, which is think is the model before yours and there are no drivers available for mine.
However I see that there are some available for yours so I would certainly go for that http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/support.htm
The chap I spoke to at my isp did say that I should get a different type of modem (he called it a 'single port' something or other) which he said would keep me with a permanent connection to bt so I would get no more flashing lights.. When I remember what he called it I will probably get oneI'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

Although BT recently tightened up the requirements for 2Mb there are still instances where the line upgrade has caused problems. The checker is just a broad check and can say a line is 2Mb capable when it isn't.
Is it possible you could post your attenuation and SNR figures? (You can get them from Dr Speedtouch).
The guy at the ISP was talking about an ADSL router. Do you know if when you were speaking to them they were did a woosh test?Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

Back on - got kicked off after last post and couldn't reconnect

Browntoa - We have tried a different splitter but haven't disconnected everything else - what difference might this make?
This morning I've found out that Virgin have no prob with ICS - I was wondering if that was the reason for it.
Coolagarry - The driver download will not complete - it lets us accept the licence and then says there is a problem and download cannot complete.
Donnie - restarting or even completely shutting down the computer makes no difference at all - it just seems to make its own mind up whether it will stop flashing and reconnect.
As another query - the man on the virgin helpline (and yes, it was the right number - not one from a phone box
) said the security setting for the speedtouch connection should be on typical. The computer keeps resetting it to advanced, however, which I assume is because of the ICS, but would this make a diff? He said that might be what the problem is?
Any other suggestions would be very gratefully received before I ring again - 25p a min - to be told another load of cobblers.
Thanks

Blinky - I probably can get them but can't see anything like that in Dr speedtouch - are they known as anything else cos there is all sorts if I only knew how to read it?
I don't know what test he did but he did do something - took about 2-3mins and he just said it was fine and we should be able to use 2mbs connection?
thanks

Thanks Blinky. No mention of a whoosh test
Helen, I got the drivers from the Virgin site linked by Browntoa and it says that it worked for my Speedtouch USB as well as your 330. Downloaded the zip file and it ran fine. Fingers crossed... But I think I will start looking round for a router anywayI'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
