I spoke to PC World just now and they say that the laptops can't be fixed instore if a hardware fault.
Browntoa, thanks for that site, it's very useful and ideal for someone like me who's scared about upgrading laptops.
But wouldn't it invalidate the warranty if I did install another memory chip? That, is an excellent question...0 -

Why is it that Dell offer free this and free that, when it is clear that they just increase their price to cover it? isn't this illegal?

Too true so its really costs more the cheeky beggers.
A standard cheap model is a bit rubbish, but by the
time you have got what you want ist nowhere near
the so called offer price.0 -

no, this went to a test case and it is acceptable/normal for you to Upgrade/add to a pc that is under warranty....might do if you dismantled the whole thing to component level though

They're doing a good offer on their Inspiron 2200 notebook - £385.40 inc. VAT, Shipping and a FREE PRINTER! Better to upgrade your memory seperately than go for the dearer Dell package without a printer.
I've posted this on the Techie chat board

I just purchased the following:-
ADVENT - INTEL PENTIUM 4 550 PROCESSOR 3.40GHz LAPTOP
Intel Pentium 4 550 Processor 3.40GHz
800 MHz FSB
1 Mb cache
512 Mb RAM
80 Gb Hard Drive
DVD RW Multi Drive
15" TFT display
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
64Mb integrated graphics
1 year FREE warranty
I know its £700.00 quid but Im happy with it and no problems so far.0 -
The Inspiron 2200 doesn't have a widescreen though
it's essential as I'm doing a lot of work on it and I find widescreens easier to read.
I'm losing faith in Dell - I phoned them and they claimed that there had been 'no difference in price' even though I have cached pages of the same model of laptop without printer for £511 and with the free printer £576  do they take us as morons? :mad:That, is an excellent question...0 -
Never had a problem with Dell - I'm sorry you were unlucky. What was the e-value code, I could try to help you

The free printer is not worth it - the ink costs a bomb! Get a cheap laser instead.delluver wrote:They're doing a good offer on their Inspiron 2200 notebook - £385.40 inc. VAT, Shipping and a FREE PRINTER!0
