If there is any important data on it, or restore partitions, you don't want to format.

Good point, there may be a hidden restore partition. Check via my first suggestion by going into Disk Management. It will show as an additional partition. I always tend to go this route in scenarios like this as at least it gives me a visual picture of all partitions rather than going the cmd way where all you can see is lines of code...

But then again I do remember reading another post of the OP where they had an issue with their DVD drive...and they mentioned that they already burned their eRecovery image to disk...so this format should be ok.

Yes, have got eRecovery image on disk but eRecovery no longer working and had deleted the back up from d:\ drive so someone suggested I try changing my d:\ drive to ntfs to see if eRecovery would then work. No luck though.

BTW darkfibre, having a bit of a blitz on my pc problems at the moment. As you have been so helpful with my other issues, do you know anything about outlook or acronis? Threads for my problems are here.If you have anything useful to add to them I would appreciate it:-

Hey, don't worry about it...I like helping people - just helping you 'jump start' your PC again lol :)

I've had another look at your DVD drive issue and laid some comments down. I was very close to doing so before, but then I had to have a little think about it first...

I don't think I have much to say about the Outlook problem at the moment, so feel it's pointless posting there if I have nothing really constructive to say that may help you resolve that particular situation...I think there are better Outlook experts out there than me..!
