Problems with GSA-H21N dvd rw drive

I have an Acer T180 which has a dvd rw drive built in. I have today downloaded Acronis True Image 11 free trial software in order to back up to dvd. In the past I have used the eRecovery software already installed on the pc and recorded successfully onto dvd+rw discs, but for some reason that won't work now so I have been recommended to try Acronis. However, it won't recorded onto dvd-r. I have checked the model of the drive and it is GSA-H21N which after googling it I find should support dvd-r. So I decided to try and record something down onto it from windows moviemaker. This doesn't work either and the error "no recordable drive found" comes up which is a bit worrying. How can this be - I have recorded with it no problem in the past? It will burn a music cd from realplayer, so the recording facility works that way.
Any help/advice that anyone can give will be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

dont think windows on its own supports dvd burning, i know for some apps you have to download a "support pack" containing dvdburn.exe from microsoft, check the acronis manual/readme file, if it needs this it will tell you how to get itclick here to achieve nothing!0

Thank you for your reply. Can't find anything in the Acronis help file about this and don't have a manual/readme file. Have therefore emailed their technical support. Have found out that you are right about windows xp not supporting dvd burning though, so makes sense that it must be something to do with that.0 -
I had a 'similar' problem with my friend's laptop, (which was also an Acer) where the DVD drive would not recognise the recovery disks. Have you tried connecting an external USB CD/DVD drive and booting off that with the eRecovery disks (assuming you can get your hands on an external drive)? You will need to change the order of your boot options in the BIOS and boot off the external."When you're right no one remembers. When you're wrong no one forgets." :rolleyes:0

Thanks, but not sure I have made myself clear. I am trying to save through Acronis to dvd, not load my recovery disks.dont think windows on its own supports dvd burning, i know for some apps you have to download a "support pack" containing dvdburn.exe from microsoft, check the acronis manual/readme file, if it needs this it will tell you how to get it
Gave up waiting for reply from Acronis and downloaded this support pack. Thought it was working, but after nearly 15 mins error codes appeared. I have listed this problem on a separate thread - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=10770527&posted=1#post10770527
so if you can help with that I would be very grateful.0
