Personally, I believe an issue here is the fact that no one really cooks anymore. Home cooked food is cheaper and healthier than convenience foods. I know we all have busy lifestyles but a big batch cook on one weekend each month is a really economical way to prepare food. If you time it right at end of day with supermarkets, its possible to pick up some great deals.
Give it a go. Let the kids get involved. dont be embarrassed folks to ask for cooking tips.
I cook everything from scratch, use no jars, packets, anything. I occasionaly buy pesto or mayo though. It may be cheaper as a meat eater, due to using for instance mince which goes a long way. But as a vegetarian my shopping basket was 40% cheaper by putting in vegetarian pre prepared/junk foods.0 -
