BOGOFs to end?

Radio 5 Live had a food price discussion and the "experts" agreed that BOBOFs were going to stop because people preferred a single article at a lower price. As a single shopper I'd prefer lower prices (if that happens!!). Do you prefer BOGOFs?

what should be ended is the outrageous price hikes on the 'bo' part of the bogoff..
ie- not such a bargain, compared to the normal price of one, before an offer started..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

If you're selective about your bogofs (like I am) then you can make savings - particularly on the non-perishables like shampoo, toothpaste etc.I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

I would prefer items to be half price instead. BUT whenever I have come across such items, I find myself buying two, because they are such a bargain :rotfl:. If they stop bogofs I would have to retrain my brain to calm down upon spying a bargain.:wall:0

Generally speaking food bogofs are the type of thing I don't usually buy...think cakes, ready meals biscuits, high fat, high sugar foods. they hardly ever come on " healthy" basic foodstuffs.
I would therefore prefer a lower price. Let's face it, if they can affford to 'give' them away, then they're charging too much on the regular unit price."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Are you referring to the supermarkets or the supplier. As it is the supplier and not the supermarket that foots the bill for BOGOF's.

Don't you find that BOGOFs have trained us not to buy single items? I feel as though I have been brainwashed to buy multiples, even when there isn't a special offer. I'm fighting it though!!0

Shopping affordably is at the most basic level some kind of maths, you have to add up the groceries to get the right quantity (what we'll eat in about a week) in a way that gives the lowest unit cost. BOGOF offers have the double sided advantage/disadvantage of often lowering the unit cost, but also increasing the quantity of shopping faster than individual items.
A lot of BOGOF offers are for junk food, but then I feel junk food is over-represented in most supermarkets anyway.
I do however find some very useful items on BOGOF. I've recently bought bars of soap, shampoo, olive oil, dry pasta, and sometimes vegetables and fruit.
I check online for the offers before I do my shopping and make a note of any promising offers/BOGOFs on my list. It takes more time, but I prefer to make my list before I go as it means I'm organised and don't have to figure it all out in the store, plus I find significantly more offers this way and save money.0
