How much do you download ?
BT throttle your connection to a crawl if you use it too much!
Also check for virus/trojan/malware that may have used your bandwidth without you realising and then put you over the limit.0 -

Trying to get BT to tell me if I've over done the download limit, but they reckon I've been a good boy. Last month is another matter though, BT tell me they sent a usage warning. I came back from deployment and the first thing I noticed was the router light (WLAN) flashing like it was being used, but there were no connections up on my network. I reviewed my security and all was as I set it. I changed all the passwords, WAP key etc and that seems to have sorted it. Thing is, when I checked the connections on the router when it was flashing I only saw what I would expect; that being the PC I was checking with. So I might have been 'hacked' into I guess, needless to say I'm keeping an eye out.
As for malware and the like, I have done a full cleanse of the PCs in my household as I always do when I get back and found nothing other than tracking cookies.

You know that the wireless light will randomly flicker even when it is not being used?

You could try the BT fair usage policy team 0800 707 6044, they should be able to tell you if you're being throttled.
Also worth checking your IP profile to make sure nothings gone wrong with the line, using http://speedtester.bt.com/0 -
Thanks hermann, I'll give that number a go. The speed test thing tells me what I should be getting and tells me I'm getting nowhere near that; 134Ks!!

Same here now for the last 4 weeks or so.
IP Profile speed of 500kbps when it should be 5500kbps.
Download speeds of 460kbps!!!!
In the proces of complaining again and again - just can't get BT wholesale/Openreach to check and unstick my profile.
Like OP I have purchased new filters, swapped cables, always have AVG and Zone alarm on, powered down (and up) both computer and voyager 205 router, and unplugged face plate of telephone socket and tested on test socket - always same result.
Why is it so difficult to BT to do something about my profile. I know the line is capable of 6500 kbps!0 -

are you by any chance confusing KBs With Kbs,
A browser and online speed tests will show your speed in kilobytes per second, the larger number you quoted is probably kilobits per second, divide this by eight and you have your "download speed"
no current uk lines support 6500 kilo bytes per sec.click here to achieve nothing!0 -
Just ran another test on Namesco Broadbandmax.co.uk and the results were
Last Result:
Download Speed: 485 kbps (60.6 KB/sec ) Upload Speed: 382 kbps (47.8 KB/sec )
I am used (or was!) to getting over 5mb download speeds.0 -
could be some hacker has created an extra account on your machine check users listed in control panel,[ i came across one once ,they had done this and set up a bittorrent client running 24/7 on the machineclick here to achieve nothing!0
