They say they are "for life" because, when they were introduced, supermarkets said that when it wears out if you bring it in they will replace it for a new one, so if you keep doing it for the rest of your life then it's well worth 10p. I have never tried it myself yet though.

Yes, that's right, as soon as they wear out or get a hole in, they replace them FOC. I've been doing this for a good few years now.

yes i understand that, but these bags are not advertised as bags for life, so as such u wont be able to take them in and get them replaced when they are broke, it is just a week thing where morrisons are giving away stronger bags for free than the usual ones they give you, after this week they will be no longer in stores, so you wont be able to replace them, and i do believe the bags for life that tesco`s do, you have to pay for in the first place, these bags are just reuseable bags, not bags for life, hth Dave

went to morrisons yesterday and got one of these fantastic bags. it's smaller than a normal carrier bag, the handle stretches when you put anything remotely heavy in it - like milk. you need about 10 of these to do a shop rather than about 6 or 7 of the normal ones.

quite frankly giving these away is a gimmick and charging for normal bags will follow. the supermarkets will make money from the fact that people use too many bags rather than address the problem of the bags not being degradable. if they were serious about this initiative they'd give away or at least discount the big heavy duty cloth bags they sell for about £3 each.

at my morrisons store they are giving away one per customer but the plastic ones are avalivable if needed, i wouldn't expect anyone to carry there shopping out in their hands!

i wouldnt say its a "bag for life" i was just asking people if they'd like a free re-useable bag.

thing is it's free, and its stronger than the plastic ones and you can fit a bit more in, and its easier enough to fold up and take with you again and again, so might as well?

we have an Asda and a Tesco bag for life.
The Tesco one is still going strong but the Asda one developed a hole - and they replaced it with no quibble.
