It does stop you from renting from some agencies that carry out credit checks and even charge you for the privelege.

It's worth scouring the internet and newspapers as there will still be agencies or private landlords out there who do not credit check.

my sister has no problem renting, even with a dreadful credit rating...from a large high street agency, she just pays 6 months rent in advance

We all do stupid things at times I was the same when I was your age, at it's worst my debts were over £20K but you can recover and prosper, it's all about learning lessons

And dont get me wrong, I call it how it is... I wont be nice to someone because its 'nice'. I dont wish ill on anyone

Its just it gets my goat..... Everyone is an individual in this world... nobody is to blame... we have one of the best qualities of life in the world... imagine where theres no warehouse, no debenhams, no tesco, no big fancy jobs, no university, no store/credit cards, no education... then you are humbled.

Its a little annoying thats all when people play the 'i've been badly done to... feeel sorry for me!'... Yes it is hard if you have a poor credit history BUT you can do without the shopping trips, you have MASSIVE opportunities that alot of people in this world will never know.

I must admit alot of my peers when younger did exactly the same thing, the credit was so easy to get ahold of... so young and so niave i guess it was easy for them. I think only my parents and my general interest in mathematics (scientist geeky person lol) allowed me to stay clear entirely of credit cards. Growing up my parents drilled it into me that credit was bad.... and that paying more for somethng was always worst in the long run... than just waiting for what you desire.

I took this and scrimped saved, bought cheaper clothes i.e primark, worked my !!! off while studying for a degree that WOULD get me a job... because while money doesn't mean happiness it does cause alot of sorrow if you get on the wrong end of it.

Im ranting but maybe im just saying i'd feel badly done to if all those nights i said "No im broke i can't come out drinking" someone could just 'have it all'... a brilliant lifestyle lovely clothes and then everything to work out from borrowing money.
Always a price to pay.... unless your parents are generour/rich ;)

Yes, as I said, look around and they can be found. I don't know how many people can afford to pay 6 months up front though. But even agencies/landlords with regular rent payments can be found with bad credit as I have done it myself in the past.

Just keep looking and in the meantime keep glued to this website for ways to save money and pay off your debts or to save.

    An interesting question here:

While people may have got into debt through their own choice, would it be morrally acceptable to have 3 million empty home and 2 million people living on the streets???

(Acknowlegde here that they would instead be living in community centers, school halls and diused military bases, but I'm wanting to judge peoples opinions on the moral issue.)
Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.

life is tough if you have bad credit. Yes it is your own stupid fault. when I turned 18 I went out a got store cards credit cards and didn't pay them back. I am now 23 and paying for my actions.

Due to the credit crunch it is almost impossible to get a mortgage if you are a first time buyer, if you rent, you have a credit check done on you (even with private landlords) You can't get a council property because you have a job and don't have hundreds of children.

    What do you do?

    live on the streets?!?!

As has been said before, learn the lesson and move on - move in with parents and repair your credit if you can?

You must be mental to stump up 6 months payment in advance in this climate imo.

How many stories am I hearing of landlords suddenly putting their properties on the market (forced to cause of finances often - never imagined their capital at risk), or letting agents going under/closing.

If landlords and letting agents play the game of insisting you pay for and pass their credit checks, I reckon tenants should require landlords and letting agents to provide them with credit checks showing their own financial health and solvency.

If push came to shove for me and I couldn't find anywhere, I'd live in a camper van.

I had a friend once who lived in a Citroen car, one of those long odd-looking old fashioned French ones that has the suspension that rises up when you start it. Wasn't even MoT'd or insured. When he'd been living in it about 2 months his gf moved in with him.

    Cambridge, about 1990.

As less people are able to pass the checks, voids will increase and eventually the checks will be discarded.
