I am just filling in the A & L ISA transfer form, I am transferring from the Halifax. On the form it asks for the "ISA number I wish to transfer" does this mean my Halifax account number or something else? Thanks.

If you mean this form under Step 3 "I apply to transfer my existing Cash ISA number........, " then yes it means your Halifax ISA account number.0 -
Thanks Baldur, I knew it must be the account number or roll number. Didn't want to put the wrong one down.0

There will be other cross-reference checks made, such as name, address, DOB, etc so it wouldn't be a problem.northern_munky wrote: »Thanks Baldur, I knew it must be the account number or roll number. Didn't want to put the wrong one down.0 -

From memory, it took quite a lot longer than two weeks in February this year, when I transferred an ISA to A & L - a much less busy part of the tax year/ISA year than now.0 -
I've been waiting over 3 weeks I think (I should have noted down when I posted the form to A&L!) for a transfer from NS&I.
Yesterday I rang up A&L asking if anything is happening and they said they cannot tell me because when they get the form they immediately redirect it to NS&I! So why not just tell me to post the form to my existing provider!! That really annoyed me. So by posting it to A&L I have to wait longer. I was told I would need to ring up NS&I.
NS&I tell me they cannot find any correspondance on my account to suggest a transfer is in progress or if they even received the form from A&L...because apparently the Customer Support computer system does not allow them to see every part of my account. I have to ring up the 'Back Office' as they call it, who are able to see more and might be able to tell me what is happening. Oh but they close at 5pm (I was calling at 6pm) so I had to ring back today.
Today then, I ring up, give my account number and name, wait while the guy taps away at his keyboard and then tells me the system has crashed and as the back office uses the same system I will have to ring back later but before 4.30 as most of the staff dissapear home. Great. It makes me laugh that the standard Customer Support line, which is open til midnight, cannot give me the information that I need and that the office that 'potenitally' has access to more of my account closes at 4.30 in the afternoon when most people are still at work!
Well, I rang back and the system was still down and was told it will likely be down til 5.30pm. Great.
This whole ISA transfer system is an absolute joke. Is their a genuine reason why these transfers take 30 days or is just because the banks want to hold onto our money as much as possible so I lose out on interest?
I am not impressed with my first attempt at transferring.
Good luck everyone, I'll sure need it when I ring them back for a 4th time tomorrow!0 -
well i phoned them yesterday (form filled in 2-3 weeks ago not entirely sure of the date) and they said it can take up to 30days they have my form and are just waiting to recieve the funds ...hope that helps0

i sent off the form about 4 weeks ago - in branch, with internal mail, at the halifax. about a week ago the money went out of my halifax account but it still hasnt appeared in my A&L account. is this normal?0

I never knew transferring one's money could take so long. It's not really fair is it?
I got off the phone to NS&I for the 4th time yesterday and they told me that the 'back office' and the CS department use the same systems so see exactly the same information on my account. So why was I told otherwise?
They cannot tell me what is happening with the transfer.
Seeing as A&L were just as useless I am forced to wait and see what happens not knowing if my form has actually reached it's destination. I knew I should have posted the form to NS&I myself. Wouldn't surprise me if it's sitting on someone's desk at A&L collecting dust and buscuit crumbs.
What a load of sheet. I'm going to have a beer. Have a good weekend everyone and don't let your money problems spoil it. Stupid banks.0 -
