Porting query

  • Additional question ... once I have ported onto PAYG, do I have to wait 30 days before I can port back?

Have noticed a few postings on forums in the past that suggest that there may be a 30 day minimum (to give time for the original PAC code to expire?)

I'm in a similar position, I want to port a number from an o2 payg sim via another payg sim on to an o2 contract sim.

Are there any charges involved in porting numbers?

And as ferretktf asks is there any minimum timescale for porting x to y to x :)

    Cheers, Des.
  • ferretktf,
when you register an orange payg sim- it comes with £1 credit on.

No, you don't have to wait 30 days. Once the number is ported to the payg, contact the provider and request the pac to move it to the network that you really want.

There should be no charges involved in porting.
...and then the window licker said to me...

    Thanks for that Knuckledragger!

I have an ovp virgin sim that I was thinking of using as the mule, would that change anything? (Yes I know giving up the ovp virgin is a sin, but I have 2)

I assume any payg sim that is acticated will be ok to use as a mule, as long as I don't mind the sim being cancelled once I have done the port out.

Hmmm, just thought of another question, the o2 payg sim that I want the number off, has never been activated, I assume I need to activate it before I ask them for a PAC code? :)

    Cheers, Des.
  • DesG,

You should be able to use a virgin sim as a mule without any problems and yes, you are right, once you have ported the number from it, it will be useless.

Again, yes, you will need to activate the o2 pAYG sim in order to get the PAC to port the number.

I take it that your order will be:

Activate o2 PAYG sim for that "special" number, obtain PAC.
Activate Virgin mule, port the o2 PAYG number, obtain PAC.
Obtain o2 contract, port the Virgin number, live happily ever after :D

BTW, I'm looking for a good Xnet+sms deal on o2 for a friend. Which one were you thinking of going for?

It is actually an Orange sim (Orange OVP Virgin) but I assume that won't make any difference.

Ok, will do, hope I don't have to shell out ;)

That is what I had assumed I would have to do. The number is quite special, I got it when I bought a 3510i that I think Argos were selling off cheap, 24.99 rings a bell. I only got it for a spare handset and the box has sat on my shelf unopened since buying it. One day I noticed the barcode and it had the PAYG sim number on it, XXXXX-123455 and at first I was cursing the person who got the one after me ;) But then I realised it was a lot nicer than my current number and here I am :)

I was looking at the v220 on o2-100 that mobileshop are doing, I think it works out, errr paying me £25 for the year ;) (After cashback, and with quidco rebate) Sounds like an unbeatable deal!

Again, thanks for your help, I'm quite mobile savvy, just have never needed to port before :)

    Cheers, Des.
