Chicken thighs are great, best roasted with skin and bone IMO, then meat pulled off while warm.
In fact, the first bit I go for on a roasted chicken these days is the big thigh bit that goes down to (and including) the little 'oyster' morsel underneath!! mmmm
I have tried deboning and chopping (discarding all visible gristle/fat) thighs before, the result was very tasty but unfortunately I nearly lost the will to live with the time it took.
On a separate note, its very difficult to buy boneless breasts with skin on these days, I used to buy these as they were more versatile - you could choose to roast with skin or quickly de-skin and use as skinless. Supermarkets convinced us fat was bad and weaned us onto skinless only. They steal our tasty fat and sell it for processing!0 -
when you're saying that you use two or more chicken thighs per person, are you meaning the drumstick bit (such as you have at buffets), or the whole thigh (such as you carve off a roast chicken)?
We have one thigh per person, adult or child; but would probably have two or three drumsticks (though herd to say as we never serve them like that...except at buffets)

A thigh is the bit between the drumstick and the body.
A thigh and a drumstick is a leg
A thigh and a drumstick and a portion of the back is a chicken quarter.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
I'd say 2 thighs is most likely a good portion size for an adult, served with a green salad and I like rice.
I often do chicken on the bone, I marinate it in Soy Sauce and Chinese 5 Spice, and like the skin CRISPY. I do this usually with wings and drumsticks, delicious.
Can someone explain to me why people don't like the meat on the bone? Is it because it's too caveman-esque? or because it reminds you that you're eating an animal that was once living, breathing etc
I'm honestly really curious, because I find that the legs/wings/thighs are actually the tasty part off the whole bird!Weightloss: 18lbs/28lbs (Start weight: 11st, Current 9st 10)

My ovens not working at the mo, so I fry the (boneless) thighs with seasoning but when my oven worked I bought thighs (and drumsticks) and just roasted them the bones are easy to deal with in thighs anyway!
As for a portion I'd say 2 for an adult, possibly less in a casserole. But I would happily eat as many of them as I could, fresh out of the oven!
I was looking at frozen breasts the other week and they are up to 25% water:eek:
I was astounded it was so much and bough fresh instead as though they were more expensive they were at least 100% (declared, not the same as pure) chicken.

I can cope with the added water, because of the price/value, and also when cooked they are still lovely and tender. What I hated was one particular brand/shop I tried had added salt in theirs and the chicken was so chewy and horrid!
Re bones, my sister gave up chicken on the bone after once crunching on a bone, it really put her off. I remember as a kid getting fish bones stuck in my throat, and after that I ate a lot less fresh fish!
One thing I can never get to grips with is people who eat meat but say they can't handle raw meat or anything that looks like an animal. I guess it just seems really disrespectful to me to deny that the meat we choose to eat was once a live animal.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Hello everyone
Yesterday while shopping I picked up some chicken thighs as they were cheaper than chicken breasts. I want to use them tomorrow eve, ideally I can cook it in the morning and reheat it ready for dinner.
Any suggestions please:) I've got most store cupboard essentials.£2 Savers club £0/£150

Chicken thighs are much tastier and more moist than chicken breasts. This thread has lots of ideas that should give you some inspiration:

I'll add this thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.
