Any problems using Onetel for the free week-end calls, along with 18866/1899.com? Thinking of re-activating my old Onetel account which would probably involve them having to reinstate the carrier to over ride First Telecom. I know there has been plenty of discussion about this sort of thing, but wondered if it is actually feasible and works to do this without them knowing/checking up.

If you pay and continue to pay line rental to BT then BT, OneTel/TalkTalk or anyone else for that matter can't stop you from using Call18866/1899, or another alternative carrier.
If you want to move linerental to OneTel then I believe they currently allow the use of Call18866/1899 but be warned as they can anytime they want stop you from using these or charge an extra fee.
Only BT allows you to use any and all other carriers (they are forced to by OfCOM rules) and other non-BT landline providers do not have to and may block them. Also BT give you free caller display which other landland providers dont as yet.0 -
If your calls are currently Cps to First Telecom all you have to to go back to OneTel is to apply to join them, and they will arrange to take over the Cps.The 18899/18866 will work ok,and you can still use the BT overide 1280 facilty to put traffic through BT.If you are going to do that consider https://www.justdialsaver.com a One tel subsidiary where your evening calls are free as well as weekend. This can be used with 1899/18866/
However if you are talking about moving line rental to Onetel. bbb_uk explains the situation above.PF.0 -
My initial query was to do with just the phone calls from Onetel and not the line rental. I have signed up with justdialsaver but now have a couple of reservations. First, I noticed that if you e-mail them with a query, they are at liberty to charge £1 for the service of answering. Also, I can't see anywhere on Martin's Website any reccommendations for just dialsaver. Is this because it has only just come to light and the word needs spreading? Finally, would they not get suspicious after a while and query, as to why they haven't been able to bill me because all my calls are the free ones (evening and week-ends)?
Thanks0 -
OneTel regularly charge my credit card with the 4p or 5p I have 'spent' during the month.Capyboppy wrote:Finally, would they not get suspicious after a while and query, as to why they haven't been able to bill me because all my calls are the free ones (evening and week-ends)?
ThanksTheir - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").0 -

why would they get suspicious if you only made evening and weekend calls
after all you could be at work all day , A lot of people are .They dont know and dont need to know.0 -
JustDialSaver do charge £1 for answers to emails that are already on their website. Therefore if you only ever email with questions about billing problems, etc then they will not charge you but if you ask a question like what is the capped price for calls to mobiles then they would charge you as it is already on their website. I believe they, the first time around, do not charge you but only for repeated questions about something that is already on their website.Capyboppy wrote:...I have signed up with justdialsaver but now have a couple of reservations. Most of the time you probably won't need to email them over anything but if you do the chances are it will be a billing query for which they wont charge you (unless it something like what is the minimum call charge which again is on their website).
MSE Martin hasn't mentioned it (as far as I'm aware) but it is relatively still knew and probably most MSE forum members are already on free evening&weekend (like me) with either OneTel or TalkTalk but unless a better offer comes along when ours ends then I'm moving to JustDialSaver Lite.
JustDialSaver Lite was discussed in a little more detail here.0 -

Mobiles phones & international rates are mentioned in the relevant drop-down list further on down the page. I have just emailed them over NGN rates to 08x and premium rate numbers.pricefighter wrote:Yes.no mention is made of what they charge to phone Mobiles Peak,NGN,or Intl calls either. Very odd.0
