  • does she have a landline?

if so you could go to the local phonebooth, ring her with a prepaid card, le tthe phone ring twice, hang up so if she is home, she knows it is you and can call you back on the phonebooth's number (that you would have given her before)... have been doing that with my mom for 6 years now (i do have a landline now though).

Tell her to swotch to onetel, and her phonebill will be mini...

As far as text messages go, it would be cheaper if she took a uk mobile to france and you had a french mobile in uk, then you could use your uk mobile to text her in france on her uk mobile and she could text you using her french mobile to your french mobile in uk. That way you avoid paying the higher prices they charge for texting a foreign mobile!

As i said its cheaper, not easier!

  • texts abroad are usually 20p per message standard.

however, on orange contracts they are 15p each.

and on O2 pay as you go, they are 20p each or 10p ech if u get the bolt-on which is £4.99 one-off fee (the bolt-on is free if you do it before Jan 2006)

    a. Does your gf have a landline number in France?
    b. Do you have free XNet minutes from your mobile?

    1. If (a & b), ring this number from your mobile:
    0773 066 6890
    0797 682 7878
(this service is provided by pre-dial)

and then continue with normal dialing to France (i.e. 00 ...)

    2. Another option: if (a) and you have an internet connection from your own PC/laptop, you can use VOIPCheap or VOIPBuster for free to call her.

    3. Or, if you prefer to use prepaid cards, here are good places to buy:
