On Watchdog, a few months ago, they reported on the tendancy of Vauxhall Vectras disengaging their handbrake and rolling away.

The BBC then received calls from current model Corsa owners who were having the same problem. Vauxhall at the time, said that they were not aware of the problem with Corsas. Check this out before you buy.

BEWARE of the previous owner of Corsas, you will find many are ex courtesy car runabouts, for garages & bodyshops, as well as driving school vehicles!! So you do need to confirm who it belonged to.

But have you thought of auction? You could have 1.2SXi 57reg with 5000miles for under your budget. & you'd know it wasn't a 'dodgy' vehicle.

Thanks. I don't know anything about auction but how would I know it wasn't a dodgy car if I bought one from an auction?
  • Yo KM!

Out of interest, why a Corsa? 8k is alot of money. You could buy alot with that.

I work for a garage - we dont deal, apart from imports to be honest, but have picked up some tips and could shove you in a good direction!!

Not saying Corsa isn't an ok car but at that money - it opens up alot of choices for you. xx

PS Its the garage I blame for the skin - diesel etc. :o

    Hi Jeannie :D

The reason for a Corsa is so my son can be insured on it. I drive a leased car at the moment and its a big quite a luxury car and its £4500 to put my son on the insurance  The lease is up shortly so I thought I would buy a smaller car so my son can learn to drive (well practice as he will obviously have lessons) then when he passes I can let him have a little indepence/experience before he goes on to buy his own car. I actually need to buy the car pretty quickly as I have left it quite late and the leased car goes back shortly

    Thanks

This car comes up on Auto Trader search right? I think it's a reasonable deal although some Vauxhall dealers seem to be selling similarly aged/ mileage under 10k cars for around £8000. They'll give the car a free service if necessary and will definitely clean it up for you.

I'd ask why the private seller is selling although the car is so new and hardly used it's unlikely there's any serious problems.

Thanks. The seller has said her husband bought it for her at Christmas but she has been ill and is hardly driving it so it seems a waste to keep it stuck on the drive. I am worried about the stories of buying cars and finance being on them etc though, although she 'sounded' very genuine and older but I've never bought from a private seller.

If you buy from BCA or Manheim Auctions, they will have all the relevent checks done for you - you pay a 'buyers premium' once you own the car, which will protect you against anything dodgy.

As long as you choose a car entered directly from the fleet operator, you're even less likely to come unstuck.
