I've just seen and test drove the Yaris I really like it. BUT I like the SR model and its £10995 and according to the salesman (could be bluffing but I've looked on autotrader and seems to be right) there are no used about as they are so new?!? So I may 'have' to buy a new one? And if I did buy the new one how much do you think is 'reasonable' to haggle him down?

Any more opinions would help as they have up to now so thanks.

Hi KM. You probably like the SR for its sportier looks but all your really getting apparently is upgraded suspension and seats and the Yaris 1.3 is no hot hatch. Is that worth £2-3k more? If you want an SR spec on a car that's worth it then go for the 1.8 but then you'll lose the economic benefits of a small car.

Try the What Car verdict of which model to get. T3 looks best to me.

No idea where you live - but if you are anywhere near me, my boss would get you a good deal, contacts and all that! If it is what you like and what you want, its your money! Toyota's hold their money better than others if that is any consolation!

You are all probably going to flame me now :o:o

I bought the Yaris SR and I fell for the hard sell and paid £500 deposit there and then!!! I had my own credit sorted 0% and the rest I had saved. The car was 10995 plus 350 for metallic paint and I got them to £500 discount. So £10845... He was a good sales man as he did not want me to leave until he got his sale and he won!!! I'm rather embarrassed now as I feel I could have probably got a better deal :o:o

He told me originally he could not give me more than £300 discount as I was not taking their credit or any extras as they don't have that much in the car to play with. When I said I'd speak to my husband and get abck to him he went to £400 I said the same again so he said will give you £500 discount then if you sign today, after originally telling me they only had £300 to play with in the car.

Oh well nothing I can do about it now and its my own fault for falling for it, just a little mad with myself because I go out of my way to get the best possible deal on everything I buy. I just do not know anything about cars and car sales men!!!

Thanks for all your help on this thread

That's fair enough KM. There was no point buying the lower spec model if you were going to be constantly kicking yourself everytime you saw an SR. As for the car being new, well someone apart from the fleets has to buy them, especially the smaller cars. And don't worry about feeling done over by the salesman. The vast majority of us are no match for their deviousness! :) I think you had a reasonable deal anyway because I've heard the franchised dealers are desperate to shift cars but they're selling so few they can't knock too much off.

Also I've read that the Yaris keeps its value much better than other small cars so as long as you feel you've had your money's worth then you can sell without the really heavy loss you'd suffer with other makes.

Hope you enjoy your ride! :)

  • Thanks Mandark

Actually I've just received a letter in the post about needing the insurance cert when I pick it up etc BUT it also says there will be 6 months road tax on it I thought you always got 12 months road tax with a new car?? Can anyone clarify for me?

    Thanks

  • I've just rung Toyota's head office and apparently its up to the dealer how much tax they put /allow on the vehicle!! So my fault again for assuming I suppose. I feel like I've been 'done over' even more now :o

You probably didn't specify how much you wanted so he gave you six months and pretended you were getting the car a bit cheaper. Having said that the cost of the tax should have been in the final bill which shows the breakdown of the costs and he should have made it clear what those costs were. Is it possible you overlooked it or did he not show you a breakdown of the costs? Either way most of us discover that we overlook something when we buy a car! :)
