I'm studying with the Open University and got an email about getting the NUS Extra card (to get student discounts etc...). It costs £10.
When I went to check out what discounts I could get it said this:
We’re sorry, we’d love to show you our really very good range of discounts that you can access with your NUS Extra card but if you’re not logged in our database as a cardholder, then unfortunately you can’t come in.
So unless I buy one I cant know what the discounts are??? That seems a bit fishy...

Anyone have one, is it worth the £10??

I got £5 discount in a stationary shop yesterday. I did spend £50, though.
You normally get 10% discount. A lot of high street stores will accept them, so it depends where you do your shopping.
They only last until september, though, so it might be worth waiting to get one. If you get one this september it will last til next september, but now you'd only get 4 months.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Hi I am also with the Ou and was interested in your post
I googled OU student card and came up with one for £10, giving discounts at mac donaqlds , matalan and various others
I think it was the 2 one down ,It runs from sept-sept so hold out for this sept 08 to get one0 -
Some clothes shops like Topshop give 10% NUS discount too
May be worth googling for "NUS discount" to see which retailers that you will use participate.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Depends, for me yes it was.
Most football clubs offer NUS discount tickets (NUS only) which for me is great and Ive probably saved about £60+ in the last year. Also a lot of shops offer 10% and it depends on if you go into these shops. Like virgin for example, good for me as I buy all my Wii games there!Green and White Barmy Army!0 -
I find that most places that do student discount accept normal uni cards anyway and i think only once i have been refused as they only accept nus extra- in all saints i think0

NO I dont think it is
I have the basic NUS card (which was free) and everywhere accepts that - Zavvi, HMV, Shoe Zone, Partners, Cinema, New Look etc accept it.
If I had NUS EXTRA I could get in cheaper to my uni's summerball - only advantage of me getting one! So never did! If I say something you like....Please hit the thanks button :beer:0 -

I believe OU students do not qualify for the free NUS card, that's why they have to go for NUS Extra.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

if its your only way of getting any form of NUS card, then its def worth it. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother. I got one in my first year and never used it. The only place in town that is funny about it is Subway... they only accept some special card that is called the Extra, but its an extra specific to my university.... the uni recommends you get both the nus extra, and their extra >.>~Diminutive0
