I thought that they had to tell you if they were going to set up a direct debit with your old details?
Not if there is a direct debit already in force. They just need to notify you if the amount changes (which a renewal notice will normally suffice).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Hi dunstonh,
I didn't get any notice of anything, and in fact I'm still waiting for the policy to arrive..?
All I got was a form yesterday saying that I needed to sign a declaration saying I wouldn't go over 3000 miles pa in the van.
I did say to them that I believed they had a duty to inform me of a change of dd payments but they say they didnt have to do this as I took an agreement out last year.
As far as I'm concerned that was last year, for a different sum and they had not heard from me saying I agreed to anything.
So because the amount had varied and they had not told me they were doing this, they were in wrong? Or am I just hopelessly confused by all this jargon?

Should Norwich Union be updated to Aviva. - Maybe leave Norwich Union in brackets?
More importantly for MSE members - the policy cancellation fee has been reduced to £39.90 (inc. IPT) :j

Sorry I'm a new forum member - can't post a link -combine the previous three lines.
I've no association with NU/Aviva - apart from having previously been a policy-holder.0 -

Ooh, this looks handy for comparing random smaller companies' terms:

The page is dated 2007, so though some of them are new, don't assume they're all up to date- Maybe better treat these as a guide and delve to see what's changed..

Apologies for accidentally including all those banners and links - they didn't appear in the reply box, or even the original page I cut 'n' pasted from!
I'm not suggesting anyone follow those links. Instead follow the link to
https://www.hertsinsurance.com/booklet.php
which has those companies' policy booklets.

And Swift will charge you £25-00 admin fee when they cancel your car insurance from its inception date (car previously written off)!!!!Owe Mum for house deposit: 01/04/2011 £4700
Currently £27020 -
Sometimes timing is critical in these things. My son is a named driver on my car. When he had a provisional license the premium was £1400 and increased when he got a full license after three months. Swiftcover were the cheapest but have increased the premium to £2000 since he passed the test. Premiums from other insurers can be had for £1300 so initially it seems worthwhile changing.
However, although just 91 days (25%) of the policy have elapsed, Swiftcover only offer a 50% rebate which means we will pay an extra £460 for cancelling. I know they have costs to cover and want to make a profit but I think that level of cancellation charge is unreasonable and amounts to a penalty. Perhaps with hindsight I should have read the 37 page policy document in detail when I bought the policy. On the other hand I did not expect the terms and conditions to be draconian.0
