Added Quinn Direct, if anyone has a specific company that want added just let me know. I'm just looking for them as I think of them :p
  • I was unaware that Norwich Union charged a fee for cancellation.

As I had to get a new policy for another vehicle and still keep the vehicle I was selling insured, I had to get a new policy.

I decided to stay with Norwich for this.

When I sold my other vehicle and phoned to cancel, they told me there would be a charge.

Needless to say, I kicked up a huge fuss over the phone, indicating I've been a good customer, have just taken up a new policy with them and that if they charged me this admin fee, they could kiss their business goodbye.

They waived the fee, as a "goodwill gesture".

So, bottom line, if you have to cancel, just keep up a huge fuss, say you'll never do business with them again and that you'll tell all your family/mates how rubbish the service is.

    It worked for me.

I imagine it only worked for you because you had taken out multiple policies with them around that time. What I don't understand is why people would complain about something they had previously agreed to.

 One month and £36.25!!! One month of my Tesco insurance is £88, so I hope I won't have to cancel this year!

Oh dear I've made a right mess of things here - just got new car, old car insured with tesco so rang them to see how much they would charge for new one and I obviously completely misunderstood this cancellation thing. So.....I've gotten a new policy with esure cos it's far cheaper BUT now realise by the time I've paid Tescos cancellation charges, I would've been better off staying with them until my policy ends in October! Anyone know anything about the 14 day cooling off period which esure offers? If I cancelled would I get back the deposit I've just paid?? Haven't cancelled tescos as yet. Any help very much appreciated :o

    11. Cancelling your policy
If you are dissatisfied with the cover provided by your policy, you have 14 days to cancel from the date you
receive your documents if you are a new customer or from the renewal date if you are an existing customer. If you
decide to cancel, you must return your Certificate of Motor Insurance to us at The Equinox, 19 Cadogan Street,
Glasgow, G2 6QQ. As long as no incidents have arisen which could result in a claim under your policy, we will
refund the premium you have paid.

kwik fit charge £15 cancellation fee if cancellation within 14 days. doesn't say this in the policy document but says it on the "buy" page.
What will you have to pay us for our services?
We will tell you the exact amount of all charges at the time. Our fees are in addition to any charge made by the insurer, and are listed below.

    - For credit card tranactions
    £5
    - Duplicate insurance documents
    - Change of excess, annual mileage, occupation or licence type
    £10
    - Temporary additional vehicle/driver

    - Any other adjustment (not listed above)

These charges must be made either by debit or credit card at the time, or if you are paying by direct debit, we will add the charge to your direct debit instalments. We will discuss this with you at the time.
If your car insurance policy is cancelled within 14 days of the start date or within 14 days of receiving your documents, a £15 fee will be charged to cover our processing costs. If your car insurance policy is cancelled after the 14 day period, we will keep £50 or our commission, whichever is the greater. This will be deducted from any refund given by your insurer. The commission amount will be displayed before you buy on-line.

budget charge £20 if cancel within 14 days. post office is probably the same since they appear to use budget as their insurer (or the same system atleast)
