so today i get another letter, this time from aktiv kapital saying i can epay the debt with a £415 reduction, meaning i would owe £277,but they are sayig i owe £693 which is what i dont understand, because the debt i had with barclaycard with added interest and charges etc was a little over a £1000,so can anyone offer me any ideas as to what to do next??0 -

Looks like they have changed tactics as well as the layout and content of their letters to appear more 'professional' :rotfl:
They are now offering me a 'substantial reduction' in exchange for a one off payment to them as they are concerned at my complete lack of contact with them! *sniggers*
Off to the shredder we go .....
You are right to 'ignore' their 'transparent offer', chameleon, but don't shred it.
Instead - report them to Trading Standards, enclosing a copy of that 'letter' as proof that they are continuing to pursue an unenforceable 'debt'. :mad:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have just had a call from Buchanan Wells on their behalf for a debt that is over six years old.
How is this possible?
I told Buchanan Wells this and the debt is no longer on my credit record.
I no it came off over a year ago.
Why are they calling now?0 -

It is a 'ploy' that many debt collection agencies use - they 'search' credit reference files actively looking for 'debts' that are just out of 'Limitation' and they will attempt to pursue them in the hope that the debtor is unaware of his/her rights under the Limitation Act:

This link will explain your rights - send BCW  the template letter that you will find on the link. Do NOT telephone them.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. On checking my credit files today I notice a search was made by a company called InfoFind in May of this year, which coincides with the last letter I received from AK.
Does anyone know whether these two companies are linked? Maybe AK employ them to search for people?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

It would not surprise me if the two were 'linked', chameleon.

They claim to be 'Tracing Agents' specialising in tracing 'debtors', so would be the type of 'service' that people like AK use.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. Hi everyone. I was contacted by these leeches last year. They made a spurious claim to have bought a 'debt', (incurred by me), from a bank with whom I used to do business. I must stress that this 'debt' never existed.
My first reaction was panic, closely followed by depression. It is not until I read the advice posted on this and other forums, that I managed to understand just what this company are capable of and how to tackle them.
I sent off the CCA letter as outlined in these pages, but despite no response to this by T.C., they continued to harass me by letter.
I absolutely refused to speak to them on the telephone and would advise anyone to do the same.
They refused, point blank to provide any evidence of the so called debt, but continued to badger me for payment, even though the alleged debt was well over 6 years old.
Some 5 letters from them, met by responses from me and I had had enough.
I wrote to Mr Lund by Recorded Delivery enclosing a bill for the time and inconvenience their attempt to pursue a non-existent debt had caused. £60 for each letter, postage and a £100 administration charge. I made it clear that further contact from T.C. would amount to acknowledgement of the debt
My next letter, prepared but never sent, was formal warning of action in the County Court to recover the above monies.
Although I haven't received the money, the letters stopped as if by magic.
This may be an unorthodox route, but it has been effective for the last 12 months.
Good luck in fighting off these vultures. Don't give in, never acknowledge a debt that is not yours and remember not to speak on the 'phone.
The advice I read on these pages has been invaluable. Thanks to all concerned.0 -
That sounds like great plan, well done you!
On the subject of Recorded Delivery letters, and what prompted me to come back to the thread again, I've had an attempted delivery (I was out) of such a letter but it doesn't state who it is addressed to i.e. title or initials, only the surname. As none of us are actually expecting anything that would warrant a signature on delivery I'm a little suspicious to say the least!
Has anyone ever received a RD letter from AK or any of their associated companies, or am I just getting far too paranoid for my own good?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

It is rare for these companies to use registered, or recorded, delivery as they don't like to pay the additional postage. You can always ask who the letter/parcel is from - this should be on the label if you go to 'collect' it - and, as far as I am aware, you have the right to 'refuse' to sign for it.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser.
