  • Final update! Went to the police station today to answer bail. Had done masses of research on the internet about Sainsbury's and taken it in to the police station for CID who had taken the case on. Anyway, was sitting with the solicitor ready to go in when the arresting officer came out and said I could go home as they were not proceeding with it. He had email yesterday but was not on duty so he couldn't ring me to tell me not to come. So relieved and happy. Had not told my daughters because I didn't want to upset them. Two months of hell over.
  • Just a quick P.S. Thank you to those you believed me and sent pm's of support.

Thanks for the update, flowerclipper. Glad you've got it sorted.

Just for the rest of us, what have you learned from this whole thing?
Will you be doing anything differently from now on? Anything we can do to avoid the same happening to us?

Well, I didn't know at the time that you shouldn't use coupons if you don't buy the product in Sainsbury's. They should train their staff better if that is the case. If I use coupons in the future (other shops) , I will be using cash not a credit card. I thought it was against the data protection act for them to have access to your cards and therefore your spending, movements etc. but it isn't if they suspect fraud. All through this, Sainsbury's have been sending me coupons and I've practically had a breakdown every time they've come in the post. I won't be using a nectar card or tesco clubcard. I want to be as invisible as possible.

A victory for common sense - it should never had gone as far as it had - what a waste of Police man hours let alone the stress caused to the OP.

Fair play - the OP has shown great character in being open and honest on this forum and weathering the intial storm of those (including myself) who at first questionned their story.

I have to say that Duder's support was fantastic and I did understand why people didn't believe me. I was reeling with disbelief myself! If this ever happens to anyone else, please get in touch with me. I did masses of research on the net about the way Sainsbury's operates and how they have been investigated by the OFT and I went to the station about two weeks ago and gave it in to be given to CID. I think this action turned the tide. Not long ago Sainsbury's were fined 26 million pounds for putting 3p on each pint of milk after price fixing with other supermarkets. All I did was go to the supermarket, decide to buy some highly inflated goods at whatever price they offered and then offered them the chance to give me a discount which they often (but not always) did. Deal done as far as I was concerned. I am now going to try and support the smaller retailer (markets etc) because we and they are being hammered by the large chains. Have decided to buy only what I need, use every bit of food in the fridge but most of all buy good food and enjoy it!

    Well done flowerclipper!

That's great news. Now how about putting together a story and asking the BBC to do a report on it? Or better still why not submit it in to one of the tv/womens/lifestyle mags as they used to pay around £100-200 for story's they print. (I don't read them so not sure if they still do)

At least you would get some money for your suffering and be able to warn others of these pitfalls. Remember only a small percentage of the population know of this website.

    Thanks Wizard.
A friend of mine suggested going to the press but I don't want my children to know what happened. I've never wanted to rock their boat. Don't think they would let me out again!

You could still do the story for the woman's magazine and remain anonymous. they'd just use some photos of other people to keep your anonymity if you wanted - so might be worth it for the dosh - it'd be good to get something out of this whole horrendous saga.

I did feel sorry for you and have been watching on here for an update - you must be so relieved.
