I must have murdered at least a hundred over the past fortnight. I watch, wait and then wait some more for one of my cats to get them (which the lazy feline eating machines fail to do! - it actually means moving!) and when finally I can take no more of them landing on my computer of wherever else I may be sitting, I strike with a viscious swipe and squash them into a sheet of kitchen towel. Then I cringe and shreek as I squash them
Awful things, thought I was only problem with them, every time I open a window, one flies in and they are HUGE!

It's been a revelation that some people are scared of/dislike Daddy Long Legs so much. I'd never kill one - would rather relocate them outside. No offence to anyone who doesnt like them, but I dont know what is scary about them.

They really dont bother me, if they fly at me I know they arent trying to bite/sting me so cant see why I should scream or leap about. It's only their legs that are big.

I do get a frisson of fear if I see a big spider, though, but then tell myself I have to pull myself together cos it isnt going to leave of its own free will.

Have you ever been sat at your computer beside an open window with bare feet and felt a tickle and looked down and a HUGE Daddy Longlegs is on your foot? I JUST DID and I screamed, awful thing, it was then chased by me around the wall until I squashed it with a piece of kitchen towel yuk! Roll on winter

  • Nice one Sheel.. been wondering where to get one of those..
sick of the little f******. Must be some sort of rule that they won't come into my house in anymore than 2's. As soon as ones dead another replaces it.
Good job they're slow and easy to catch, legs fall off and they can't run away.

Although i got one an hour ago with the 7ft shoe launch technique

They are horrid. I think its the way they sort of 'hover'. I don't have a problem with spiders like a lot of people, but crane flies are just something else. Minging.

As Ricky Gervais annoys me more than any amount of daddy longlegs I haven't seen this sketch.

  • Only seen a couple (unless the dog gets them first?) - but can't open too many windows because of flies. They're unbearable :(

Apart from the dreaded aerosols, what else kills house flies?

(I suspect it's something to do with what the local farmers spray their crops with btw - but can't be sure)

Apart from the zapper that I put a link to earlier , there's also THIS on the Robert Dyas site. Don't know how effective they are though
