Sosh I do a similar thing with washing powder! Add a mark every time we do a wash to see how many we're getting out of a box! Luckily OH is used to be being a bit mad so just accepts it!
Can't remember who asked about the curry sauce, but the one I got was in a jarJonathan Douglas born 20th January 2009 - 9lb 4oz

Thank you very much!
Our biggest problem, is we will by food, and then instead of cooking, we will go and get a takeaway (convenience) and then the amount which we waste, its not even funny.
So thats the biggest problem which we are trying to tackle head on first. See how we get on.
I have been reading through alot of these threads, and all of them are really helpful. A few of my friends at work laugh at me and call me a grandma!! But Id rather do that then spend all of my money down the pub!!
I do sound old nowIm only 20!! 21 in 5 weeks! Fella is 21.
Thanks again

Hello Youngbean, it's my first month of doing GC and so far so good. I have days when im rushed of my feet that would have been takeaway night, what i do is make a couple of big batches when i cook, then you can buy containers with two compartments in them......result is perfect convenience food (micro meals);) . failing that i whack something in the oven and walk to the chippy, two bags of chips to go with whatever i put in the oven is enough for us, and it feels like a takeaway:D .
Goodluck

gunsandbanjos, jackk and everyone else!!
Thank you!! I am really serious about doing thise challenge. OH, Adam, has his doubts, but I need to do this.
Am going to sit and do a budget/ meal plan today. Then I think shopping tomorrow, get things for the week.
Thinking quickly, I only have to plan for 3 days of evening meals, have pork steaks, fish steaks and mince in the freezer!0 -
Good luck Young Bean!!
Keep us up to date with how you get on!!! We share bad days and good days, lots of fantastic advice and support given.
I read every post (yes, its time to join OS annon..but I love it ...)
This morning I've planned our shopping list for June (which is flexible but gives us something to aim for as far as savings are concerned).
Feeling a little bit mixed up as OB has been told he's being made redundant in September.. there is a good chance he may be given another position in firm but we won't know for another 2 weeks.
On the bright side I'm working and we may need to use our Challenge savings just to live on.. so thank godness we've got them..

hi guys, after declaring a nsd yesterday popped into petrol station and saw some whoopsie milk (4 pints down to 70p) so bought two of these. But planning a no spend day today. (will update siggy in mo):T
Young Bean - welcome, its my first monthly grocery challenge too. THe guys have been fantastic so don't forget to ask if you need to know stuff. Am enjoying the challenge and can't believe I wasted so much money and food before. Try some of the recipes they are great and easy to make. a personal reccomendation is to allow yourself the occasional takeaway (if budget allows) or you MAY start to feel deprived (diet mentality setting in)

angel thanks again, going to try the freezer bit also as well as the butter you told me about, it will happen, lovely pastry for me:D much appreciated the tips:rolleyes:
lol which angel? me or angelatgraceland? :rotfl:
Extra tip - not sure about putting the butter in the freezer, I think using it straight from the fridge will be enough but definitly put the flour in the freezeras this really helps keep the temp down while you're making pastry.

Planning for June? Eeek! Im still a little unsure on how to plan for this week, let alone a month!
dink1
Yay! Im not completely on my own then?! Nice to have newbies aswell
My budget for the month is going to be £140. Thats £35pw and that is to feed 2 adults. We have two rats, they only cost us £5 a month to feed, get sawdust and everything else!!
Just need to sit and think what we can have, without wasting loads!
Thanks again

Hav'nt been online as were having a bit of a bad time with my teenage daughter and the GC will probably go to pot but i'm still going to keep a record. And get back on track once the dust has settled.0
