Would you tell your neighbours if you were putting a new fence?*update*

We had our fence all the way round (Except for the left hand side where next door had their own 6ft fence up) replaced in 05 and didn't tell them, it's not that we don't get on with our neighbours but we're not in and out of each others houses etc. There's small sort of 10-layer walls between the house, next door on the left has theirs inside their boundary and the one we put up on the right is inside our boundary too (where as the fence we replaced was very old and sat on top of that wall)
Next door but one is a different matter  Constantly out in their front garden with cups of tea/bottles of beer etc staring in at what people are doing at all hours/in all weathers, watching you bring all your shopping in, gossiping about the whole street to anyone who'll listen, hanging out their bedroom watching us in the garden  I'd build an 8ft fence with a roof on if I could get rid of them
Worst thing is they're two late 30's blokes living at home with mummy and daddy and making our skin crawl. (Their mum is just as nosy, you barely see the dad)
Few nights before christmas we went out shopping at about 1.30am to do the big shop. The oldest son came sauntering across the road and stood on the front leaning on the wall between next door to us and their house and watched us. We made a comment along the lines of 'Do you want to come with us and see what we buy? You can pay for it too if you want'
and he sodded off inside, yanked back the curtains after putting the light on and pressed his nose up against the glass so he could watch us till the taxi came!
... Ahem. Yes. I must stop ranting offtopiclike.0 -
Actually I would object to this. Barbed wire at 4 ft level would be at face level for most older children and adults, and is not nice at all in a domestic residential area. Aren't there planning rules about that? I'd be inclined to check that out, as it is IMHO very anti-social to put a barbed wire fence between you and your neighbours, where there is no livestock involved, and children are likely to get hurt. Even if there is an insurance reason to improve the fence, there is no need at all for barbed wire, and if they are well heeled I'm sure they can afford a safer and more aesthetic solution!
isnt barbed wire illegal at that height, as it's a health and safety risk, check with the council on that oneLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
*update*
We talked to the contractor who was doing the work and asked for no barbed wire on top of the fence around our garden and they have done just that:T
Also, they haven't replaced the fence between our garden and theirs (only between our garden and the field they also own ) which means that the boys can still come and go.
And oh, boy, have they been back and forth...:DI lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -

Do we live down the same street? as you could be talking about our neighbours, we always say if there is anything that you want to know then ask them at number x if they don't know then it's not worth knowing..Lol0 -
If you're in Lincolnshire we could well be
It's the same here. 0
