Would you tell your neighbours if you were putting a new fence?*update*

That makes more sense now... yes, I would have spoken to you about it first

I don't see that it will be such an improvment.... 4 ft high chain link with barbed wire on top....
But it wills top their dog coming into our garden. Not that we ever complained about her barking at us in our own garden.....
Actually I would object to this. Barbed wire at 4 ft level would be at face level for most older children and adults, and is not nice at all in a domestic residential area. Aren't there planning rules about that? I'd be inclined to check that out, as it is IMHO very anti-social to put a barbed wire fence between you and your neighbours, where there is no livestock involved, and children are likely to get hurt. Even if there is an insurance reason to improve the fence, there is no need at all for barbed wire, and if they are well heeled I'm sure they can afford a safer and more aesthetic solution!0 -
yes, i think its only common courtesy to tell your neighbours
we recently replaced the fence ( between us and neighbours garden) and warned them when it would be happening ( they have a dog)
BTW we had a company in to do it :rotfl: and we are not particularly "wealthy" :rotfl:0 -
Hi,
Im just wondering if anyone knows the best way to deal with boundary issues so that i can check and not have the cost of it if it isnt mine
Neighbours dont speak for one reason or another so before i start opening my wallet where would i go to check its mine to start with0 -
I do think your neighbour should have consulted you before doing this. I think I'd try to pop around and have a quick word to ask what the reason for it is. It is possible that they have a good reason (maybe one of them works in a job where they could be a target for press or for aggrieved clients) and it might be easier for you to take if you know what it's about. But I would also carefully let them know that you would have liked to be informed if possible...0

gtrm - your deeds - there should be a T on them to state which side is yours. Also have a look at others fences in the road to gauge which side is yours.
Mado do you have a cat? 4 foot with barbed wire would lacerate a cats feet. I am sure there is some barbed wire around here somewhere as my cat has come home twice with badly cut feet. Barbed wire on residential is not OK, don't know about any laws though.0 -
I'd have a word with the council about barbed wire at 4ft high in a residential situation. I was burgled a few years back and mentioned to the police about possibly putting barbed wire on the top of my 6ft panel fences. I'm sure I was told I had a duty of care to my burglars!Make £2026 in 2026

Hi
When we decided to put up a new fence we told our neighbours and they offered to pay half the cost even though the fence was our responsibility. They said they would be benefiting from it as well. We had friends round to help us fix it and whilst our neighbours were not able to help put up the fence they brought out tea and beer for everyone when it was finished.
We definately have great neighbours and I appreciate them even more when i read some of your stories on here.
Hope you all get your fence problems sorted amicably.
Cheers

that is correct tho they are noyt called burglars they are, in the eyes of the law, uninvited guests on your property, and if they came to burgle you and injured themselves even if it was a gashed hand while smashing your windows, they have almighty right to sue you
how bad is thatIf we can put a man on the moon...how come we cant put them all there?
