"our who economy is underpinned to a great extent by property" That's the whole problem babe, G Brown is responsible for the bubble, and he will be out on his @ss at the next election.I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another, so please feel free to ignore this.0 -
There's no need for the harsh attitude to those other site members whose family members have lost their jobs. Losing your job is horrible for anyone, whatever job they did previously.
And estate agents are, for most people, an essential service which they have to use to effectively market their property.0 -

There are dishonest occupations in all areas of life. the cabbie who charges an old lady an extra fiver because he knows she wont dispute it, the carers who leave elderly senile patients sat in their own waste for hours, the people who test on animals, the drug deals, the pimps, harold shipman, bent coppers, bent accountants, dodgy mortgage brokers, dodgy IFA's, rogue traders - yet none of them seem as hated as the common estate agents.......why?
i'm loving the fact you put lump people who spend their lives doing what must be pretty distateful jobs (animal testing)to cure horrible illnesses with serial killers etc
the reason people dont like EA's and the financial services is because they know a lot of the messes we repeatedly get landed in are because of their actions (northern rock any one)0 -
They just said on the radio Estate Agents branches are closing at a rate of 150 a week
Although they then qualified it by saying there were 13,000 at start of the year and some 12,000 now.0 -

So the brokers are responsible for Northern Rock marketing a 95% mortgage together with a 25/30% unsecured loan then? Do you think EVERY BROKER sold those products? were the clients themselves no responsible for the informed decisions they made when taking these products?
We live in a culture thats happy to blame and claim even when the consequences were fully explained at the outset. Its about time people started taking responsibility for their own actions. And as for all you MSE'rs who are happy to whip the estate agents and laugh at their misfortune....I assume you won't be using an estate agent again then as that would probably conflict with your principles. Well good luck selling your houses privately. The estate agents cannot sell them in todays market so you will have to houseladder and netmovers to market yourselves, and I bet even then you would begrudge paying the 99 quid to market it.I am a Mortgage Adviser

zero arrears on the Together product, according to the last report I saw, by the way. Looks like their credit scoring and risk assessment was pretty good.0 -

i beg your pardon!
my oh has never claimed a penny in benefits and has always worked. And just for the record I work too.
i am sick to the back teeth of people tarring EA's with the same brushBring back mark and lard NOW! or else (please) clique member no. 10 :j

Estate agencies shut 150 branches a week
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1930019/Estate-agencies-shut-150-branches-a-week.htmlRemoval firms have also laid off hundreds of staff after a 26 per cent fall in the number of properties changing hands over the past 12 months.
The job losses are the clearest sign yet of the impact the global credit crisis and housing market slowdown have had on the wider economy.
This led to warnings yesterday that unless banks and building societies increase lending to mortgage applicants, worse may be to come.
etc etc0 -

That is a very serious problem indeed, for the economy....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
In Balham (SW London) none are closing, in fact I'm pretty sure that an old furniture shop that closed down a month ago near us is being refurbished to an EA, making a near consecutive run of about 8 or 10, only interrupted by a Ladbroke's and a Nandos. Foxtons are over the other side of the road, with one of their flagship big glass-front stores.
First person to see a Foxtons branch close gets a prize! (or one of their letting agents crying in their Mini...)
Sorry for sounding gloaty, I really do have some sympathy for EAs getting laid off, but sorry, just NOT for Foxtons!0
