Estate Agency News - February 2009

The top ten EAs shut just 1/8 of their branches (almost 400 closed in total) in 2008.

So, although it will be the smaller EAs who suffer most from the crunch, there's plenty more to come yet. I suspect many are holding on to see how good/bad it is in the Spring.

Even EA news says the big question is:- “Will it get worse before it starts to get better?”
• I just hope they can all get proper jobs doing something useful once they get their P45's.

Hello Baconboy, They all do very useful jobs in helping us to sell then buy then sell then buy.

I've been Money Tipped!
I think forgot a long while ago to add Southern Equestrian Properties to the list and just remembered as I was trawling through my old regulars for new properties :(. The sad thing is the guy on the end of the phone (I think it was all dealt with from home) was telling me it wouldn't hit 'his' sort of property and was adamant I was overly pessimistic.

Blurb said :specialist equestrian property agent for the South and parts of the South-East, including Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire and southern Bedfordshire.

ETA: would love to know which agents took on the properties.

I was walking past the Jobcentre the other day, there were long queues of people with shiny suits and loads of hair gel, they must have been estate agents.

Seriously, do you have anything else to offer to the forum apart from larking about the joblessness of EAs?!

OOOH - Morgan Randall has a sign on the door saying "Due to current market conditions and internal restructuring, our Balham business has been relocated to our Canary Wharf branch with immediate notice". They've only been opened a few months!

I wrote that in September 08. As of this weekend, the branch is open again!

I KNEW there must be a reason they kept all the flat screen monitors and giant TVs there! (oh and all the glass coke bottles under the receptionist's desk!!!)

Only seem to be lettings advertised now which I guess is par for the course - must be plenty of money to be made there at the moment.

TgBaynes New Eltham Branch has closed. Cockburn's also closed a few months back, so only one agent left out of 3 in New Eltham.

It appears my local area has been significantly effected. 6 agents have closed in Sidcup, and now 2 of 3 in New Eltham.
