Estate Agency Closures

  • Utter carnage in Spain as more than half of the largest EAs have closed

"...The 10 largest estate agents had 3,001 offices between them at the end of 2007, but now only 1,434 remain open. For sale or closed signs are a common sight outside former estate agents, particularly on the Costa del Sol or Costa Blanca, two regions popular with British buyers. ..

......"The closure of estate agents has been brutal," said Santiago Baena, president of the Spanish College of Estate Agents. "We always said training was essential but they ask for more training for a man selling lettuce in the market..."

  • It's all good. They'll have to retrain and get proper jobs instead of their previous temporary jobs merely created to service the disastrous property bubble. That'll be good for the economy in the long run.

now, im never happy about anyone losing thier jobs, but warmed to see last weekend that our freinds at Bairstow Eves , Rochester, had closed their offices.

BE are literally ( ime) the pinnacle of everything wrong with the EA trade in this country ( forcing buyers to see thier brokers before viewing, lies damn lies and m,ore lies etc) so im pleased to see this little bit of chaff swept away.

There's at least 3 times as many Estate Agents as there needs to be. These closures are totally inevitable.

Bairstowe Eves are the ONLY estate agents in Halifax who I would recommend. They didn't, until recently, have a face to face Mortgage Adviser except for their incredibly poor telephone service that nobody wanted to use.

The staff are good, friendly and helpful too.

And NO, I don't have any vested interest. I send clients to them, but I get none from them. I think it's down to them being a franchise (or at least th one in Halifax is) and it's down to the individual Franchisees.
I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.
