Estate Agency Closures

It'll be much better for society as a whole if these leeches have to go out and get proper jobs. Instead of poncing on the rest of us.0

fatpig and Banderman, could I just ask what you do for a living?I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.0

I beleive you have a choice to use an estate agent or not. If you think you can sell it yourself for cheaper do it!
As for ramping up pricing, how? Surely it is the people buying at silly prices who ramp up the prices!0 -
Lots of EA's closing round here too. At least 6 local ones in last 6 months. Still about 300% more than we need.0

I seriously have issues with the expensive Accident, Sickness and Unemployment policies, but I would encourage everybody to consider an Unemployment policy just now. If things are better in 12/24 months time you can always cancel it.I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.0

I've sympathy for miners, shipyard workers, engineers, etc ( i.e. anyone who does something worthwhile) losing their jobs. But not slimy, lying estate agents. As Carol says there's a massive oversupply of the chancers. The sooner they get their cards and go get a job in McDonalds the better.Krusty & Phil Madoff, 1990 - 2007:

Personally, I don't see how you can rejoice in the bad economic situation affecting one small group, while at the same time 'feel sympathy' for all the others that will be similarly affected.
(I don't think you can take any group and tar them all with the same brush either, as if life were black & white with no shades of grey, but that's another point.)
The slur on those working in Mc Donalds probably isn't called for either.0 -
Okay I take that back. That was a massive slur on McJobs. And the average estate agent hasn't got the skillset to get a job in McDonalds anyway, they're way under-qualified. They're probably under-qualified to sweep the streets too. I've no idea what job any of them could do in the real world.Krusty & Phil Madoff, 1990 - 2007:

As far as I can tell, the dislike of estate agents comes from the fact that whilst posing as 'professionals', they are often anything but.
Pretty much everyone, myself included, has a story of going to an EA with a perfectly reasonable amount of money to spend, and being laughed at.
Now, this didn't bother me really, as I just laughed back and eventually found an agent who was helpful.
But can you imagine being laughed at by a doctor, or a lawyer, or a clergyman, or any other kind of 'professional' person if you approached them with a reasonable enquiry?'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -

I think the age old problem is that they act on behalf of the seller (even though laughing is unacceptable), I struggle to think of another profession this happens in.
But you are right some are useless and the current climate will get rid of those ones. The better ones will benefit.0
