    My husbands -
    Applied - 16th April
Confirmation of apllication, update letter, blah... - 20th April
    Opened - 12th May

They've still not cashed the cheque though  and no mention of backdating interest
  • Visited branch 18 April after trying unsuccessfully to open for the 2007/08 year on line at the end of March. Supposed to be some sort of technical hitch but had lost my chance to invest for 2007/08. Appled at the branch 18 April and £3600 transferred to an ISA for 2008/09 from my current account that same day. Letter received today 17 May confirming that my account had been opened from 14 May. Have been assured that interest will acrue from the 14th day but this was never explained to me. Lets wait and see when my interest will be paid from.
    I smell yet another con!
  • Am not happy!! I applied for a Barclays ISA at 6.5% over a month ago....have had an acceptance letter today but it's only paying 6.25%
And!! They still haven't cashed the cheque which was written when the ISA was applied for!!

On 17th April 2008 I handed application form and cheque in to local Barclay's branch to open a Tax Haven ISA. I heard nothing more until a letter arrived in the post this week acknowledging my application and saying that the account would be opened within approximately 4 weeks. There is no mention of the interest rate being reduced. The letter also says that savings will start earning interest from the date the account is opened. This is a disgrace and not good enough from Barclay's. Come on Martin, use your clout!
  • Finally!

    Applied: 23 April (online)
    Showing online: 16 May

No letter yet but guess it's in the post.

Poor show though - 23 days.
Oh well, it's better than most.

Have just spent the last hour reading through this thread and feel really pee'd off for you guys! Thank goodness I didn't bother this year! I went through all this carp last year with the Tax Beater, or whatever it was called, and decided not to bother this year..... haven't tried to move the money to a better one yet, it would appear that Barclays have an issue when more than 10 people on the country try to do the same thing at once....

Nice to see they learned from last year's mistake!!!! Good luck you guys, I shall be still watching this with interest - which in an attempt to be funny, is more than you guys are getting atm! :o

MSE Dan's first post says they'll backdate interest so make sure you mention this if it isn't done automatically.

I opened my account on 16th March 2008 but cheque still hasn't been cashed, so I'm sure they'll enjoy backdating over two months worth of interest :D

What a disgrace... this whole tax haven thing is such a mess!

I wish I'd just paid my money into my existing isa instead of trying to be clever! Mine has just been opened, almost 6 weeks after I actually opened it. I'll be going into my local branch to complain tomorrow, and I've already emailed a complaint. I'm not going to let my lost interest go!

I agree that we should all put in official complaints. How can such a huge company be so useless?

    Good luck everyone.

(By the way.... isn't compensation in the form of a cheque or current account credit not actually proper compensation, as the interest rate is based on accumulated interest???)

I'm all for money saving, but as a former retail assistant I do take offence at people who nearly make assistants cry - it's unlikely to be the assistant's fault that they can't facilitate changes higher up in the management change; it's the same as someone complaining directly to you because your father's father's father's father's father's father's mother's father's mother's brother's dog's uncle's cat's best-friend's dog once insulted someone.

I also worked as a retail assistant - got punched for 'being a T**t' - my manager was there also trying to explain his credit card couldn't be used

Yes i admit nearly making him cry wasn't best; i didn't intentally mean too; however it was the incident of ' mr Toastie you can not open an ISA because your fraudulant using the system and then told me that a transfer of £3600 could not be stopped from entering my ISA and if the subsequent funds couldn't be met then an overdraft facility would occur' (i only had 2k in there). So on and so forth him lying and me ending up saying 'if you want to !!!!ing well like to me atleast get your manager' and he had already been !!!!ing around the lady in front, which forced him to call the manger who look rather frustrated also, to call glasgow.
    8,000 / 10,000 saved. Another 2,000 by April 2011!

I managed to get a £50 goodwill gesture after I received a letter last Friday saying they couldn't open my ISA as they need ID and could I take it into a branch - I have a current account and a mortgage with them for goodness sake. i refused and took my complaint for the idiotic beaurocracy concerned to the highest level. The outcome was they still want to see my ID - which I took when i applied in the branch for the ISA, my mortgage and current account and internet banking!!!!!! Don't they know who i am?????!!!!
I have requested my cheques be returned and they can shove their ISA where the sun don't shine as far as i am concerned.
I am £50 richer but I think it is well deserved after the amount of people I spoke with and the stress levels incurred during the hours worth of telephone calls!
Make sure you complain and keep complaining if you are not happy - this whole situation is a complete debacle!
