Vauxhall Astra Boot Stuck

The catch on my Vaxhall Astra SRI is stuck and won't let me shut it.

It thinks its locked onto the boot catch as the latch is in the locked position and because it's in the locked position I can't shut it. Ive tried to use the key manually and also the central locking but it won't work. It is sometimes a bit dicky but it was locked last night, I went to put something in it this morning and now it wont shut.

I had another vauxhall once when the main door did it exactly the same thing but I could just get a screwdriver and flick the latch into the open position and it worked fine.

Does anyone know how I can fix/overide it so I can shut my boot as the screwdriver thing won't work

No idea, but try asking on an Astra specific forum such as this one.

It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

Brownie points for searching but opening an 18 month old thread to ask the same question when the solution to that one was a redirect to a more suitable forum really isn't the best way forward.

There is even a better board to ask here ..

  • The problem with my boot not opening was the red 10 amp fuse in the fuse box ad blown causing both the boot and also the windscreen washers not to work, jobs a good un ..:j
  • They are a few red 10 amp fuse's close to one another, the one you need is away from them in the bottom part of the box. its all alone apart from a yellow one if i remember righty bang at the side of it.. i,ve bought a few spare fuse's to keep in car in case it goes agen, nothing worse than not being able to see through a dirty windscreen because washers wont work, oh and also trying to get the pram out of the boot using the back seats...

P.s it's also wise to carry a small pair of grips to pull the fuse out due to them being on the tight side tryin to pull e'm out. i paid 50p each for mine

  • I know the right solution has already been found, but i'll just elaborate on it a bit.

I had the same issue this week, thought it was the windscreen washers frozen, but after a few times i had to stop and clean it myself, i went to go to the boot to get a bottle of water, only to find that wont open either!!!
So went xMas food shopping, hoping that it may have defrosted, but didnt. Rung Vauxhall and as soon as i said the words "Boot won't open", he then said, you drive an Astra and you've blown a fuse...common issue i think.

Well anyways, it took me ages to find the right one, because the manual doesn't state it and they dont know either, but it's fuse 8 for me, in the bonnet of the car. The fuse box is located just to the right of the battery. Check the fuse first (you can see through the fuse to see if the metal connector has blown), and if it has blown, just pop into halfords and pick up another one. They come as a set of two (always handy in the freezing weather), and cost be £2...whereas Vauxhall tried to charge me £40 because they wanted to "check" everything was ok.

Oh, and the reason the fuse blew was because the washer jets were frozen, the pressure built up and it blew the fuse...lame!

Hope this clarifies something for some of you.

Mine occasionally gets confused and won't switch out of lock to let me re-close the boot (I have an Astra estate), usually a couple of blips on the central locking button gets it the hint across and fixes it.
