Sorry for asking but I need help please.
All was working well when I had the old PC on Windows XP, Netgear Wireless Access point "802.11b". All 3 other laptops in household could connect no bother. Then Access point started to play hell and all connections were lost to the exception of the main PC connection.
Now I have a new PC running Vista, a new Access Point "D-Link DWL-7100AP" and I would like to re-instate the wireless connections in the household (printer sharing etc).
Could anyone help please ??? I am on Virgin Broadband "L" package which incidentely,. works much better since I've got my new PC
Please try to keep technical jargon to a minimum. A cable for me is a cable with a telephone socket lookalike at the end....not an ethernet duplex co-axial you name it.....
Thank you for your help and I mean it !

Ok but normally you would have a router for all devices to connect to rather than using the wifi to wireless access point "via" your pc
What devices have virgin provided you for the broadband service?click here to achieve nothing!0 -
It's a Motorola "surfboard" don't have the spec on hand as I am at work at moment.
The system is as follows: Outisde Virgin broadband comes into this Motorola box. My old defunkt Access Point was linked to this Motorola box via a cable. All other PC/Laptops in house were connected Wifi to this Access Point. Problem is somebody did it for me but I am on my own now....and must admit hard to do with limited knowledge.0 -
ok if that is the setup shouldn't be a problem, some routers(surfboard) and wap's will only allow new clients for so long after switching on so check the manuals for info on this.
Power down router, wap and all pc's leave for 1 min and power on router than access point with a min in between, then go to each pc and switch it on allowing a min in between,
This should work as long as none of your machines config has changed
What may have happened is the new pc uses later security which has caused the wap to switch to that mode and now all the other pc's are trying to use the old security methodclick here to achieve nothing!0 -

I think that you are waffling a bit there! The new access point will connect to the Motorola Surfport (modem) via an Ethernet cable. The access point will need to be configured by connecting it to the main PC, using an Ethernet cable and entering 192.168.0.50 into the browser. The new PC won't have changed the encryption as this is configured in the access point and any connecting PC's need to use the same WPA key in order to establish a connection to it.
As stated previously, all of this is explained in the D-Link manual, so read it to make progress. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Waffling is a bit strong?, and very insulting my friend please explain how so and try to back it up.
you dont know how this network was configured previously as far as dhcp and manual addresses yet u assume the wap is at the factory default pls reread post 7 before making comments like thatclick here to achieve nothing!0 -

The OP has stated "Now I have a new PC running Vista, a new Access Point "D-Link DWL-7100AP" and I would like to re-instate the wireless connections in the household (printer sharing etc)." so it needs to be configured. Doing your switch this on, wait one minute then switch this on will not work! Once the wireless access point has been configured and WPA encryption set up on all PC's the printer sharing etc. can then be sorted out. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
