HBOS to Sainsbury's - transfers not working now.

Options
Since HBOS introduced its new payment and transfer system my son and I have been unable to transfer to Sainsbury's accounts as we get an error message after pressing the submit button. It says, "Sorry we cannot complete your request at this time. Please try again later"

We tried setting up a new transfer and now cannot put down Sainsbury's accounts as internal transfers as you are only able to choose between sort code and account number or roll number. As Sainsbury's accounts only have sort code and account numbers you are only able to enter this. Once you do it is set up like an external transfer.

So for example if I set it up this way, the first payment date I can choose is 30th April meaning I can no longer have instant transfers between HBOS and Sainsbury's. I have emailed HBOS and told them what is happening - hopefully they will correct this problem and allow transfers to be internal as before.

Anyone else able to confirm this problem too?

Yes that's how it now is for me too.
I hope I'm wrong but I suspect that they won't change it as I believe it was not intended to work like it did as strictly speaking its not an internal transfer. Sainsburys bank is a seperate entity albeit a 50/50 joint venture between HBOS and Sainsburys.

    You may well be right.

However it was HBOS that allowed you to select sort codes beginning with 12 as transfers to accounts with them in the first place. It seems daft to make it slower now when they are supposed to be bringing in faster payments.

I went to pay my Halifax credit card online on Sunday from my Halifax current.
The first date it would allow the payment was today.
Usually it would accept the payment on Sunday although it wouldn`t actually transact ¬til the following working day (Monday)
These payments take three working days even though it`s the same bank!

I tend to agree with Noh that the "instant" transfer to Sains is now over.
Having said that isn`t there something in the pipeline about faster transfers starting 27th May for all of them?

DAK if transferring from Sains to HBOS still only takes one working day?

looks like that is going to get off to a very slow start

I'm sure the banks are dragging their heels deliberately over this as they must stand to lose a lot of easy money that they currently make on our money 'in limbo'

Sainsbury's to Halifax is still a same day transfer, but not instant.

On Sunday night, I tried to transfer davings from Sainsbury to my Halifax current account. The earliest date available was also Tuesday. However, the money has left my Sainsbury account and been credited to my Halifax account today.

I'm testing a payment the other way. Again, no longer instant, but I'm expecting it will be same day.

When I first set up to transfer from Halifax to Sainsbury's, I couldn't set up the Sainsbury's account as a Halifax account, but I contacted the call centre and they set up my Sainsbury account with a Halifax roll number, giving me instant transfers. That no longer works.

    Bump

I now see that Sains have cut their rate to 5.5%.
Did anyone find out if the transfer from Sains to HBOS remains as next working day?

It depends if you make the cut off time. But yes, if early enough.

As far as I can see the cut off time is 4pm
    Can anyone confirm?
